Please help me stop
I am trying really really hard to give up sweets. Especially after dinner, I crave sugar, but I am trying to live a healthier lifestyle and eliminate sugar from my diet. I can be really disciplined about my food choices all day, but sweets are just sooooooo good and I end up snacking on some sugar filled treat by the end of the day....help, I need to stop this bad habit!
Please share any suggestions or tips to help me get rid of this sweet tooth :(
Thanks so much!
My thoughts with this are
- Most foods have at least some sugar. Even something like meat isn't completely free of sugar. So eliminating it from the diet entirely shouldn't be a goal unless on a very specific diet with medical supervision. Lowering sugar is reasonable though for many people and some may want to go as far as eliminating added sugars.
- I think foods with added sugars can be a part of a healthy diet.
So tips more for what you're asking specifically
- find treats you enjoy that do not have a lot of added sugar. There are so many different ways to enjoy fruit, cooked, frozen, fresh, lots of types, etc.
- If incorporating more dessert like food (I support this) plan a bit of what you want, decide on the serving, that type of thing. Serve that and then put the rest away. Once done, if still wanting more it can help to switch to something else. Ie. if chatting with someone, move elsewhere. Or eat some fruit or have a drink (I love rooibos in the evening). Somee people like to brush their teeth shortly after.
- Don't keep sweets out in the open. No candy dishes, don't have desserts at the front of the pantry, fridge, etc. If you need something in a candy dish (cuz hey they look nice) consider something that is slow to eat like mints, sugar free hard candies or even inedible colourful rocks.
- keep low sugar snacks on hand, easily accessible.
