Can Staying Active Help Keep Our Muscles Younger?
I came across an interesting piece of research about exercise and healthy aging.
A recent study looked at older adults who continued strength training and found that some of the gene activity linked with muscle aging was much less noticeable in those who stayed active.
I thought this was interesting because we often think of exercise mainly in terms of getting stronger or losing weight, but staying active may also be important for maintaining healthy muscle as we get older.
The research doesn't prove that exercise alone caused the difference, but it is another good reminder that regular movement and strength training can be valuable parts of healthy aging.
I found the research explained in a pretty easy-to-follow way here: https://longevity.io/digest/2026-07-10
What kinds of exercise or movement have helped you stay active as you've gotten older?

Adding strength training several days a week as we age is definitely important to help maintain muscle mass. (Which we lose as we age)... As it helps in protecting aging bones (which weaken as we age resulting in fractures), & also helps with osteoporosis.
But it also helps in supporting the simplest of things we can take for granted such as daily activities (like lifting groceries or other heavy objects). As well it can help with boosting metabolism which helps burn more calories even as we rest! (Which can be important in weight loss goals)…. And it simply keeps us moving daily.
Among a myriad of other reasons, Strength training is so very beneficial to everyone (that is physically capable & medically cleared to do so by their physicians)!
But “ANY” movement that we get daily whether in a gym, outside, or even from a chair if needed, will help in benefitting our overall wellbeing!
Thanks again for sharing~
PS: I personally LOVE Zumba classes & dancing to maintain activity.. But also incorporate Strength training, Aqua classes, & daily walking.
