@Heartsandrosesandpaws Drinking enough water is probably the most important tip on the list. In hot climates dehydration can remove you from the census in three days, or quicker when combined with exposure.

Other tips from a former desert rat:

  • Avoid alcohol & caffeine, at least during daylight hours. Both make your body lose moisture more quickly.
  • Never go outside without a head covering. A hat is best, but even a do-rag or bandana is better than nothing.
  • A good tactic is to wear a t-shirt (sleeveless is best but short sleeves will do) with an oversized short-sleeved button-down shirt over it, open. You wear the outer shirt like a jacket, basically. It will protect you from the sun to a degree, & it catches breezes too.
  • If you're driving, park in the shade every chance you get. Even if you have to walk across a parking lot, it's okay if the car is not an oven when you get inside it later.
  • If you're driving, keep at least one gallon-jug of potable water in your vehicle. Two is better. Glass jugs are best because glass doesn't melt like plastic does, though it is breakable. This is vital if you drive long distances...if your car breaks down somewhere, you may not necessarily get help right away. Also, be adaptable: if your car's battery isn't working, check it carefully. You can add water to it from one of the jugs.
  • Keep fire-starting materials in your car. This isn't as weird as it sounds. If worse comes to worst & you're broke down out in an arid region with no phone signal, starting a fire will attract attention sooner or later. Either a fire marshal or some kind of police officer will show up, which is what you want. Once the official arrives, tell him what the situation is. He will help you if he's worth his salt. Make sure it isn't too windy before you attempt this, as high winds can make a fire "jump" from one source of combustion to another--& spread. If you light it in the daytime the smoke will attract attention; at night, the fire itself will.

@slowdecline48 Be very careful with that last tip^ and i agree hydration is the most important one. Never go anywhere without water. Also lemonade is very useful too, try to take cold lemonade with you when you go out. Stay safe everyone! 🫶
