What are your tips for keeping your home organized, cleaned, and clutter-free?

I use to keep my home spotless, but as time has been going by, it keeps going back to getting messy...

Depression & chronic pain are parts of the reasons why apart from having a little one but...
I want to come up with a method that keeps it clean and organized!
When my home is clean, my mind feels a lot better and being at home feels better.
When it's messy, my mind feels more chaotic than it should be...

I still don't have a lot of furniture in my house, so a lot of things are kind of splayed everywhere.
I used to not have a lot of clothes, but people keep donating some to me that I feel a little overwhelmed. My son is also young, and has been wetting the bed, so I'm frequently doing laundry.
I think clothes is the main category that has been bothering me the most.
I plan on selling clothes that I don't use and keeping only a few items.

  • So anyways, what are you tips?
  • Do you follow any specific methods? (ex. Konmari, Clutterbug, etc)
  • What are your thoughts?

I can't sleep tonight...so planning on doing some cleaning at least!

I understand that keeping a clean and organized home can be challenging, especially with depression, chronic pain, and a little one. Here are some tips:Declutter in Small Steps: Break down the tasks into smaller, more manageable steps. Tackle one area at a time to avoid feeling overwhelmed.Prioritize Categories: Since clothes are bothering you the most, focus on decluttering them first. Keep what you truly need and love, and consider donating or selling the rest.Storage Solutions: Invest in storage bins or organizers to keep items in their designated places. This can help manage the splayed items and create a neater look.Establish Routines: Create daily or weekly routines for cleaning. Consistency can make it easier to maintain a tidy environment, even with chronic pain and other challenges.Incorporate Your Little One: Teach your child to put away toys after playing. This not only helps with organization but also instills good habits early on.Laundry Management: Since laundry is a frequent task, consider having a specific laundry day schedule. This can help streamline the process and prevent it from becoming overwhelming.Minimalism Approach: Embrace a minimalist mindset. Keep only items that serve a purpose or bring you joy. This can make the decluttering process more intentional.Seek Support: Enlist help from friends or family members. They can assist in decluttering, organizing, or even taking care of your little one, providing some relief.Remember, progress takes time, and it's okay to ask for support. Take breaks when needed, and congratulate yourself for every step forward!

@justjack2001 This was helpful! I'm going to tackle the clothes first. I haven't gotten furniture yet, due to my living conditions being temporary but...I'll be here until at least next August, so I guess it doesn't hurt to get furniture. I can always sell it if I can't travel with it. I sincerely appreciate the advice!😊

I couldn’t have said it better than “Justjack2001” did above!

Those are pretty much many of the various tasks that I follow when cleaning. As I like to clean and am always staying on top of “de-cluttering” & organizing my spaces around me.

✅ I definitely start with what bothers me the most…. And Definitely having the proper storage (bins, drawers etc…) helps with keeping everything in Their space and giving it “a place of its own”.

✅When my son was little I used to call it a “Cleaning party”! And turn on the music, sing, dance around, and assign him small tasks to make it fun for him too.

✅I get rid of what no longer serves a positive purpose. Clothes get donated or sold if I don’t need them or can’t wear them. Clutter/garbage gets thrown out & tossed, and again everything has its own place so that it stays there or gets put back there after use!.,…Keeping things at a minimum.

✅Also keeping up with vacuuming/sweeping  & dusting creates a nice polished look at the end!

✅And I try to do or keep up with all these things “as I go” or “as needed”, so that it doesn’t “grow into clutter” that becomes or seems too overwhelming.

@PoliteOcean Hello, it's always nice to see you around the forums Ocean! 🌊 Oo, I'll try the clean up party idea! :O I think it might work for the little one. He definitely loves music and dancing. I haven't got much furniture yet due to temporary living conditions but...since I'm going to be here until next August anyways, I might as well. I can always sell the furniture if I can't travel with it.

I feel overwhelmed by the amount of clothes I (now) have. I'm pretty minimalistic with clothes, but people keep donating them to me. I prefer that my son gets clothes, as he's growing older. I'm thinking of putting them for sale for now, as I'm dealing with some employment issues at the moment. 😥

Hey there~ 🙂

Its ok that you don’t have much at the moment in terms of furniture. We all have to start somewhere. You do what works for you and your home. But it surely wouldn’t hurt to have a few “storage” bins for more options if needed….

When I was younger & first started out, I think I had a Couch, a chair, and a table (outside of my bedroom set to sleep in)….Which was good enough and kept things simple. I made it more homey by adding a few nice carpets. And I eventually saved-up some money and eventually added more in a better home once I was able & in the position to do so.

And also that’s exactly what I did. I sold what I could. Or donated the rest. Someone else can always use whatever we can’t.

But if clothes are your main issue, that’s definitely a very easy fix. Keep what you like or need, & get rid of and downsize the rest. If you could even sell them, then you could also use that profit to get your son what he might need since he is growing. And keep the rest of the profit for what you need!

You will get there and you’ve got this! 🙂
