Weight loss
Hello, good afternoon! I hope everyone is doing well today! :)
Does anyone have advice for weight loss for someone who weighs 145 pounds? I'm 14 years old, and some people have told me that kids shouldn't start a calorie deficit, while others say it has really helped them in their weight loss journey. I've wanted to lose weight since I was a child, as I've always been the fat kid.
I would really appreciate it if someone could help! <3

Hello there~ 👋🏼
We think it’s really amazing that you are wanting to do something about taking charge of your health & wellness at a young age. We are never too young or too old to live healthy or have healthier lifestyles.
It sounds like you are having a Challenging time in your personal weight management? That can definitely be a frustrating feeling. And can also be difficult to deal with when you are feeling unsure of what to do or unsure of where to start.
As far as having a healthy weight for yourself at your age, this is definitely something (at your age) that you would want to sit down and talk about with your Healthcare provider (along with your parents or guardians)! By doing so you can ALL work on the best plan of care & decide “together” on what you can do personally. At your age a special plan of care would need to be put in place since you are still a minor and still growing! Your body needs to have certain amounts of all the right things to meet your nutritional needs, caloric intake, & goals!
Without knowing your personal or medical history, we surely cannot give you direct advice on what to eat or how you should eat…. However, With the proper care of your healthcare provider & perhaps coordination with a “Registered Dietitian” or “Nutritionist”, you can have a confident team approach & an individualized plan of care in place with the right guidance & support that you will need to meet your goals. Through proper Nutrition, hydration, Activity goals, & personal goals designed for your specific personal daily needs....
But as far as eating well and supporting overall health, wellness & weight-management, (eating the right amounts of fruits, vegetables, whole grains (instead of white), healthy proteins (like chicken or fish, or tofu etc..), & healthy snack options can help. As well as meeting your basic hydration needs with water (instead of sugary drinks like sodas & juices), & limiting or avoiding overly processed foods! These are always a great way to start getting on track! 👍🏼... And also "Staying active" as much as you can and are able is a great start. That can be something as simple as taking a walk in nature & the fresh air, or walking a pet, gym classes as your school, community centers (if you have one locally) also can offer plenty of fun & engaging activities for those your age! Getting in activity doesn't have to be an over-whelming process..... There are even plenty of "interactive" games you could engage in at home to keep your body moving!
And with your parents or guardians involved, they can also help in supporting those goals when cooking & preparing your meals going forward.
Just know that we are here to support you, your efforts & your journey however we can here at 7cups! And we wish you all the best in your goals!
And if you have any questions feel free to message & reach out. :)
When you eat your meals try starting with the veggies and protein before eating any carbs you have on your plate 🤷🏻♀️ just making that small change has made a world of difference for my weight loss journey
Get a smart watch and try to hit 10,000 steps every day. It will help with both your mental and physical health. Just don’t obsess over it, because that can lead to eating disorders and other bad things. Just focus on being active and having fun and trying new things! <3

hi! i don't know if you use reddit but there is a huuuge community on r/loseit. tons of tips & advice, and people regularly post their updates. i'm sure someone's journey will be helpful to you :) nd good luck! it takes a lot of resolve !!
I really believe in intermittent fasting life style for all ages, it’s also easy and applicable as a life style.
@Sherbeto You should try to play sports, I have done that and been so happy I'm 13 years old even though I dont weigh to much I want to love my body. So I started playing sports and have lost about 10-20 pounds
I lost 20 pounds by exercising portion control. I want to lose another 15-20 pounds.
My biggest piece of advice is just please dont try to follow any fad diets. They may seem amazing and yes they CAN work, but they arent sustainable and usually any weight that is lost while using a fad diet will be gained right back as soon as you break it. They also almost always cut out nutrients your body NEEDS, no matter what some people might say.
The 6 main things your body absolutely needs:
-carbs; THEY ARE NOT THE ENEMY!!! THEY ARE YOUR MAIN SOURCE OF ENERGY, YOU NEED THEM! Sooo many people say you should cut out carbs, but its almost impossible to have a healthy diet with absolutely no carbs. Just limit added sugars. But fruit has natural sugar, which is a carb, which you need.
-water; this goes without saying, but try to get 8 glasses of water per day
-vitamins; i dont know a whole lot about them, but most fruits and vegetables have most of the vitamins you need to consume every day, and its always helpful to do your own research to find the best way that works for you to get the vitamins you need
-minerals; i know even less about minerals than i do about vitamins, but i do know they are also super important
-fats; yes, you need fats. Fats are not bad. Fats are necessary. They protect your bones and help your body in so many ways. Just watch out for trans fats and processed food because, similarily to carbs, fats get a bad rep because people usually associate them with junk food, but things like meat, dairy, and even some nuts and fruits contain fats that are very beneficial for your body
-protein; protein is very important for your body, especially if you would like to build muscle. It boosts your metabolism which helps burn calories faster and can aid in weight loss, and preserves muscle mass so that when you do lose weight, you're losing fat instead of muscle
Apologies for how long this was, but i really do wish you luck in reaching your goal in losing weight!
Also please please keep in mind that the number on the scale and the appearance of your body are not the only concerns, but your health is extremely important too. When i lost weight, i was extremely unhealthy and it ruined my mental health as well because my mind was consumed just by how i looked and i never even considered how badly i was really hurting my body. As long as you focus on your health, hopefully you will be able to achieve your weight loss goals while also learning to feel amazing in your own skin in the process :)
