How concerned should I be?

I have been aware for the last couple of years that I wake up during night more often than an average person, as well as have more vivid dreams that I remember well. I also occasionally talk or scream or move, if my dreams are disturbing. I used to think it was just because of my joint disorder and me getting uncomfortable during night and waking up to reposition my body. I recently moved in with my SO and he has been complaining that he can't sleep next to me, as I'm moving or making sounds near constantly. I also feel really tired and slow during the day, especially regarding mental work, that I used to think was because of the medicated anxiety and depression, I have been experiencing for the last 10 years.

However, the last coulple of nights i happened to sleep alone and decided to try counting, how many times a night I'm awake. To my astonishment in pretty ideal sleeping conditions (alone in a comfortable bed, good room temperature, aired out room, pretty quiet) I'm awake enough to register it about 20 times a night. That would average to 2-3 times a hour.

I start doubting if I have slept a complete 90 minute sleep cycle in months, and I seem to start dreaming almost as soon as I close my eyes (I deffinately have dreamed on 10 minute naps)

How concerned should I be?

I used to have sleeping problem, then I learnt so much about sleep everyday through Google. I feel like like I can be a sleep doctor now :). but I still have problem sleeping without dreaming a lot. i learnt that when we sleep we go to subconscious state. When I am in sleep, my brain wave is so intense that I will wake up during the nite or in the morning with tension brain. After a while then I am ok, but I feel that my brain is so intense when I am asleep even when taking a nap. Anyone can tell me what to do? I do meditation every night before sleep which help me more relax now, but the brain tension is still there, so desperate, I know if I go see therapyst or sleep doctor they will ask me to see psychologyst or meditation. Please help, thank you.....

@goldenhorse

first of all you mentioned sleeping without dreaming - we have about 4-6 sleep cycles when we sleep, that means that we have 4-6 dreams at night , but the problem is that we usually can remember about 2-1 last dreams and if we won't write them down, then we can forget them in half minute and think that we haven't dreamed at all. If you want to remember your dreams write them down as soon as you get up :)

secornd thing you mentioned was having tension during sleeping- that might be a reflection of stress

@hothouseflower

Hi, I remember when I used to wake up every 15 mins during the nite, much worse than you. Later I noticed that if I was having fun during the day, being active, I would sleep longer with less waking up. Believe me I went thru so much about sleep. I went to different neurologyst, sleep doctors, therapyst, all didnt help. Now i force myself to meditate before sleeping, watch funny movies, talk and laugh. It will take some time to see the difference. Keep trying, I know how frustrating it is.

I had a rough time growing up, maybe it's good that I don't remember all of it. But I tend to get nightmares about some things. I'll be asleep, having a beautiful dream, when something switches and I'll be caught in a nightmare. I'll wake up shaking and crying. My poor cat has had the life hugged out of him a couple times (haha not for real) It's pretty scary, and the following day they'll still haunt me and that's scary too. I've tried to get rid of these nightmares, I take fairly heavy sleep aids and I have 3-4 of my grade A, feild tested, and official nightmare-chaser stuffed animals on my bed every night; but sometimes those don't help. It's not every night thankfully, but it's like the longer I don't have them, when they come back they've gotten worse. They keep getting worse. Maybe I do need help
