****ANY AND ALL "NEWBIES" PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHARE YOUR WEEK WITH US!****
**This past week went pretty well... I thought it would be a little challenging getting back on track and back into the groove again this week after just returning from our Vacation last weekend........ But, i was able to jump right back in surprisingly to myself. I Kept on track with meals, sleep, water, and workouts.~ And I signed up for another Fitness certification! This one will surround "Weights and Strength". I've already had a "Toning" cert for years. But wanted something a little more heavier hitting~
**Classes went well this past week. I was able to teach all Four of my classes this past week. Which I hadn't done in at least 3 weeks. Seems like at least one of them had to be cancelled each week due to something that came up.... The weather has still been pretty amazing. And hot. I'm still getting in some nice Pool time. Although instead of working out & working on my knee, I find that I've just be "lounging" on the float more instead. :/ But its proven to be a great "relaxing, de-stressor"~ And feels so great.
**No major plans for the long weekend ahead.... Intentions are to get up early, get some type of workout in, and drive/travel out and about to some different places for the day. And just Enjoy the long weekend, & these last few weeks of summer and sun and amazing warm weather.~
ENJOY THE WEEKEND & HAVE A SAFE ONE~
@PoliteOcean
Congrats on getting back on track and good luck with your new fitness certification! It
I'll just say this.
I am pretty sure it wasn't a full week. It went so fast that I probably dropped a day on the way 😂
I think that nutrition is very important for your health and wellbeing because it helps your body function properly. If your body doesn't feel good it may make your mental health worse.
I properly need to do more exercise again; as I have gotten a bit lazy lately. To build my stamina back up again. This week has not felt good this week as I felt a bit stressed and overwhelmed, I am going to take the time this week to wind down a bit.
@Harmony8682
Hey there... Sorry to hear that you were feeling a bit stressed and overwhelmed the past week. But its great that you are wanting to work on that moving forward and take some time for yourself to wind down. We all need to make time for ourselves to do that. Everything can affect our over-all wellbeing. And its so important to work on those little things, like good nutrition for starters. As you stated, yes it does ensure that it helps our bodies to function properly. And also yes, if our physical wellbeing isn't doing well, it can surely affect our "Mental" wellbeing. It all goes hand in hand!
It's great that you are wanting to work towards also doing more exercises again to help build your stamina back up. Good for you. Keep up the good work and effort that you are wanting to put into yourself and your healthy living journey. Thanks so much for checking in this week!
@PoliteOcean
Thank you! 🙂
@PoliteOcean
**Hey Everyone~How have you been doing this week?! I have been doing okay. It's been a pretty stressful week. Work has been overwhelming.
**This is our FIRST Check-in for the Month of SEPTEMBER!... This week is NATIONAL NUTRITION WEEK!~ To start this week off we are hosting a week long of events. How important to you is Good, quality, Nutrition? What are some good, healthy, quality choices that you have made or implemented for yourself during your journey?! Nutrition is very important to me! Not intaking a lot of sugar has been very helpful.
**In what ways could you start to implement healthier choices for yourself if you have found yourself get off track recently or during these stressful times? How were you able to turn things around OR... how have you "already" gotten back on track? decreasing sugar intake
**Monday is a U.S. Holiday (LABOR DAY)... Many of us will have a nice long weekend ahead!...What will be your plans this weekend?! lots of rest
**What have been your "Highlights" Or "Struggles" over this past week? Work has been hard but I got a lot of other stuff done
@Mellietronx
Hey there Mellie
Sorry to hear that your week has been overwhelming and stressful from work. Hopefully you can find some time for yourself to relax and un-wind from things over this long holiday weekend!
I love hearing that you make Good nutrition a priority for yourself! Making great choices such as limiting sugar as you have, is very beneficial and can have a great impact on your goals.
Despite that work was challenging for you over the past week, its great for you that you got alot of other stuff done. Its so nice to feel accomplished. Thanks so much for checking in this week and letting us know how things have been going for you! Get some rest and enjoy the weekend!
**Hey Everyone~How have you been doing this week?! My pain is subsiding to 0-3 outside of physical therapy. My range of motion, core strength and upper body strength is still pretty weak, but I started upper body exercises this weekend.
I'm trying to eat clean, non starchy vegetables and good proteins.
**In what ways could you start to implement healthier choices for yourself if you have found yourself get off track recently or during these stressful times? How were you able to turn things around OR... how have you "already" gotten back on track?
My friends brought me some snack foods, and while they are technically what I asked for, they include a lot of added sugars and things. So after I was done gorging on some of them today I had one of the aides move them out of sight so I don't gain 20 lbs in the next half week.
**Monday is a U.S. Holiday (LABOR DAY)... Many of us will have a nice long weekend ahead!...What will be your plans this weekend?!
My plans are to read more in 'The Good Neighbor: the life and times of Mister Rogers' (I highly reccommend it) and to relax playing Neopets and other games.
**What have been your "Highlights" Or "Struggles" over this past week? My struggles have been with myself. I don't think I can work and move out at the same pace I was doing before which means my housing situation is precarious at best. I'm looking at moving into assisted living or an adult family home after rehab right now.
@berryfields2409
Hey there...How great for you that your pain is subsiding and its good that you are working on different exercises to help you continue to improve!
Its so great that you are trying to eat clean and incorporate choices that are beneficial for you! I'm sure that making these great choices will also help your physical situation to improve as well and help to heal your body from the inside out.
I think that is really Awesome that while you allowed yourself to enjoy a good treat, that you were also able to have some self control and made a great choice for yourself in "removing" the situation so that you didn't further make any choices that would undermine your goals! AWESOME job!
Continue to keep up the great work and great choices.
Sounds like you have a very nice relaxing weekend ahead. Enjoy your reading and game time!
I hope that whatever your houseing situation is after rehab, that it all goes well and finds you in a place that will be good and beneficial for you and your needs. Please keep us updated on how things are continuing to go for you with that.
Thanks so much for checking in this week and letting us know how you've been doing and feeling and how things are going for you!
@PoliteOcean
I think good nutrition is really important for a healthy life. I value good nutrition a lot as well and try to eat healthy whole foods. So,e of the healthy choices I've implemented are: (1) going for plant based milk over animal milk, (2) eating whole grain bread instead of white bread, (3) eating more fruits and vegetables.
I get off track quite a lot, and it takes a lot of time for me to get back on track, I would actually need some suggestions on how to get back on track quickly.
I'm planning on eating satieting healthy food, doing a little bit of exercise, and walking in the evening.
uhh, I'm a bit embarrassed of it : ( I've been eating a lot of junk lately, a lot of high sugar foods, and haven't been doing a lot of movement either
what's happened, has happened, and I know it can't be changed, so there's no point of talking about it in detail. I'm just hoping that the coming week is better!
@talkswithariba
Hey there!
Wow...sounds like you are already making ALOT of great, nutrious choices for yourself. What kind of plant based milk are you currently using?! I've been looking into possibly changing mine as well so thought I would ask around.
As far as getting "back on track"...where do you find that you are needing the most help? Is it with your food? With your activity/workouts? With something else? Or all of it?!......If its with your food, I would recommend keeping things simple at first. Don't make too many changes at once or it will seem too overwhelming. Trying starting with smaller portions of things you already like, (it already sounds like you are making good choices in swapping things out for "healthier" options) so continuing to keep that up is great!.....If you find that you get off track with your good meal choices, I would then recommend getting "back on track" with your "next" meal!... If you find that you are unable to do that, then pre-plan your next day. Plan out everything that you are going to eat for each meal. And already have things ready to go so that you are able to jump right back into it.
I would also recommend keeping a "journal" of some sort .... a place to write down and pre-plan/pre-track your meals... But also to journal your thoughts/feelings/emotions (good or bad) about your journey, or really whatever is on your mind that hinders you from staying on track. Sometimes just being able to get out our feelings, and being able to look over those things and look over our 'patterns" can help us moving forward!....
If you find that you are off-track with workouts or exercises... Find activity that you "ENJOY"!... Enjoying whatever you are doing is Key to continuing to do it! If you aren't enjoying it, then you are more likely to quit..... If you find that you lack motivation, then perhaps find yourself a workout buddy/partner, that can keep you on track. (A friend, a relative).. You can do this online as well. There are so many amazing apps and coaching apps that help to keep you motivated and inspired these days. Simply putting on a set of headphones, and some great music and heading out the door for a 30 minute walk is so under-estimated!... Get in touch with your neighborhood and nature, ... or even a local track etc.... Get out and about, clear your mind, listen to your great music and before you know it, those 30 minutes are up and over with!
Also..there is no reason to feel "embarrassed" that you haven't been able to keep on track with your healthier choices and journey. Because we have ALL been there. These are challenging and stressful times for many of us recently with so much going on around us. And its very easy to make "not so great" choices! And the thing is to not look at it as a "bad" choices, or as a "cheat".... Think of it as a "treat" to yourself, and then vow to your own-self to make a "better" choice with your next meal, or your next workout, etc....
It can be difficult and challenging and we can actually find ourselves "beating ourselves up a bit" over the not so healthy choices we make. I have done it time and time again, and I do Health & Fitness for a living!....... But... the key is to do the best you can, and just keep moving forward. You fall down, you get back up, dust yourself off and keep going. Nothing is going to un-do the choice... all we can do is continue to make better ones afterwards! You've got this!
We are here for you to help you in any way that we can and are able. Please feel free to reach out anytime!... Thanks so much for checking in this week and letting us know how things are going. Please continue to keep us up to date on how you are doing!
@PoliteOcean
Thank you so much for this well detailed and purposeful reply, means a lot.
My dad once brought me Blue Diamond's chocolate flavoured almond milk, since cow's milk was upsetting my stomach. Since then, I've been drinking almond milk most of the time. I've tried Silk's Almond Milk, and Earth's Own Almond Milk as well. For me, Earth's Own is the best, it has a much more smoother texture. I prefer to use the unsweetened one, though the vanilla flavoured is quite nice too. It's affordable as well, unlike some other brands.
Coming towards my "getting back on track". Recently what happened, was that I had been eating very healthy and exercising daily for 15 days, on the 15th day, I decided to give myself a cheat day. However, the cheat day turned into a cheat week, and then a cheat month. I was *highly* depressed, I was eating junk, and would lay in bed all day. It recently happened, and I'm still in that trauma of how everything turned upside down. This affected not only my mental and physical health, but my confidence went really downhill as well. I've gained quite some weight, and I'm anxious about going back to school.
What i need help with is to easily get back on track after a cheat meal/day. But I end up craving so many things, that I can't control myself, I need to know how I can control myself. I've tried keeping myself busy, but it doesn't work, I'll still somehow end up eating a lot. And then I lose even the thought of going healthy, I just eat junk as if I had never wanted to go healthy. I ignore that thought completely. I lose exercise motivation as well after eating bad. I haven't worked out since that first cheat day.
I have problems feeling full, no matter how much I eat (including protein, good fiber, and good fats) , I don't feel satisfied. I get hungry half an hour after having lunch.
I need the motivation and the energy and the mindset to get myself back up on my feet.
Once again, thanks a lot for your reply.
@talkswithariba
Hey there... Ahhh.. yes, I totally understand (and can also relate) to what you are saying.
You do so well for so long, then something comes up, a holiday, a birthday, a "treat day" ...or an emotional time. You give into having something you want or perhaps something that you "deprived" yourself of for awhile, and then all of a sudden, its like something inside you turns on and tells you that you now want to "treat" yourself to 'Everything'!....
I have certainly been there!.... As I've stated, we are in some challenging and stressful times recently as many of us are going through things or perhaps dealing with things that we've never had to deal with before (such as this pandemic). So many of us have slipped away from our motivations, and the things that kept us on track.
It can be a challenge to getting our "head back in the game"! But the motivators that work for "some" may not always work for another.... You know? You have discover YOUR own reasons for wanting to do better, for wanting to meet your goals, and for what its going to take to get you moving in the right direction again. And even then, there will or may be some slip-ups or back-tracking (and thats ok! Nobody is perfect, your journey will Not be perfect)..... You have to find and know your own "WHYS" and 'Whats".
"WHAT" is it that you want to accomplish? WHAT is it going to take to get you there and help you to reach that goal? WHY do you want to reach that goal (health? to feel better? etc...etc..)...
I mentioned journaling.....Keeping a journal of these things and the goals you are trying to accomplish can really be helpful. IT might not be for everyone, but....its worth a shot. You can continue to journal each day. Preplan your meals and write them down. Preplan your activity and write it down. Make a "schedule or appointment" for yourself to stick to. Write down and track your thoughts for the day (positive and negative). Look at the negatives and see what it is that is hindering your mindset and how you can work on that moving forward. TRACK, your progress (whether daily or weekly). Whether its your measurements or something else. Give yourself small rewards for each goal you accomplish (a manicure, a pedicure, or a small gift to yourself etc...).
If you are having issues feeling "full" DRINK more water. Perhaps you could be dehydrated as well? Drinking more water, or perhaps choosings clear liquids (such as teas , or broths) will continue to help keep you feeling full between meal times. Or... keep fresh fruit and veggies on hand to "grab and go"... Keep carrot sticks, celery stick, apples, etc... to reach for and snack on between meals if you aren't already doing so......Brush your teeth if you find yourself reaching for food before its time! Theres sugar free hard candy or gum to chew on as well between meals.
And going out on a limb here, not sure if you've ever spoke about this to your healthcare provider? But, thats always an option as well in case theres a hormonal type issue as well.
It could also be the affect of saying that you gained some weight during that time that is playing on your mentality too. Perhaps telling you that you are so far gone, that its going to be too much of a challenge to get back to where you were. But ITS NOT!! START NOW!... And just keep moving day by day. Preplan, pretrack, journal, have fresh healthy snacks ready to go between meals!...Keep plenty of water, tea to drink and sip on between meals. You've got this. You have already proven for 15 days, that you could do this. So stop now, turn yourself around, and start heading back to get back to where you were. Remember WHY you started to begin with!!.....
@PoliteOcean
Thank you again for this reply. The last paragraphs almost actually brought me to tears and got me emotional. Lol.
I was journaling all my meals during those 15 days, but once I starting eating bad, I was so embarrassed to even write them down. I've never written down my feeling daily, so I guess I'll try that out.
Feeling full is my main issue, and I'll be honest, I do drink a lot of water. Like a lot. I'm used to it now. But yeah, I think going for teas or just veggies sticks like carrots could be helpful. I've recently started snacking on frozen grapes so I think I can continue doing that as well. I crave a lot of sugary stuff and I can't hold myself back, no matter what. I'm just trying to reduce my sugar intake but I always fall back.
My siblings and I went outside for a walk after dinner so I guess that's a start. I might do something else tomorrow too.
Heya ! This week has been half good, half bad, no in-between… It started great and completely shifted at some point. The lack of reason/excuse for this shift made it a bit worse. Im using the weekend to recharge though and its going well! I deep cleaned my whole place, which always helps me sort out my thoughts and feels like a clean slate, fresh start. Im hoping to work out at some point, maybe go for a run, and hopefully study a bit so that I can feel more confident for the week ahead. So all good!
As for nutrition, lately Ive been making myself smoothie bowls (I think its how theyre called at least) with frozen berries and a banana mixed together, sometimes with chia seeds – it feels fresh, the colour is beautiful and the not-too-solid texture helps for when Im not feeling like eating but need food!
Im hoping to keep my good energy for longer next week, lately it feels like I gather lots of energy during the weekend but I end up running out of energy somewhere around Thursday. So lets hope this week will be different, well see! I usually cut myself some slack when starting not feeling great, but maybe I should keep working out and doing all these things to keep going and motivate myself again.
@LinearWaves
Hey LinearWaves,
Let's stay with the half good side of the week and make the next one full good. Hope you are recharging energy as usual this weekend and for sure it will last for the whole coming week.
Smoothie bowls sound like a good idea, the mix of blueberries and banana surely is healthy and extra points for the chia seeds. Guess you can do some more fruity experiments and tell us about it.
Running is also one of the best recharging activities, keep going with your plans get the sneakers out of the closet and hit the road. If at some point you are not feeling great -hopefully not. Just come here and get the Healthy Living community support.
@Traveller8
Thanks for your kind words <3
I'll let you know if I come up with another cool fruity mix! Take care!
@LinearWaves
Hey Waves!~
Sorry to hear about your week. I feel like I can relate to that on some level as mine was kind of similar in those feelings with that "shift" you spoke of, along with the "lack of reason/excuse". ... Its great that you are using this time/weekend to recharge and pull things together again for yourself. Its the perfect time to do so. Its so funny (as well as awesome) that you deep cleaned your home, as I did the exact same thing on Friday! lol.... I felt if I could just get things cleaned and start the long weekend "fresh" that perhaps my mind and outlook on things would be better when the new week starts again. And sounds like you had similar thoughts! Theres something to be said for keeping our personal spaces around us clean and organized and inviting more positive energy for ourselves because of it.
I hope that you found that this has worked well for you, and that you are able to get that workout in and go for a run and also get your study time in.
How nice on the "smoothie bowls"~ Thats a great idea when you want to keep it healthy, yet not really in the mood to make a full meal. And a good way to keep energy up!
Thursdays can be a tough day..... it can be that "in between" day of the week. The one where you feel like you are just ready for the week to be over, yet excited for the weekend ahead. One thing I used to notice at the facility that I used to teach my classes at, is that Thursday was that one day where it seemed like didn't do as well as the others. Not many people would come or show up for classes this day. I think people lose some of their "mojo and steam" from the week by then? I hope that you find this week is different for you!.... And yes, by all means. Cut yourself some slack. We all should try to find it within ourselves to do that when needed. My hubby tells me that so very often. I'm always harder on myself for so many things than I should be. But if we don't cut ourselves the slack we need, then who else can?! you know?!...
I hope you find the motivation that you need to carry on through this week! Have a good one and thank you so much for checking in and letting us know how you've been doing and how things are continuing to go for you!
@PoliteOcean
I think theres something about seeing things cleaned and sorted, as you cant see your thoughts/feelings sorted, having at least your place cleaned and all tidied up probably helps in that way !
It would make lots of sense that people lose their mojo and steam by Thursday, I mean, Monday are tough but thats expected, Tuesdays too but youre holding on until Wednesdays which feel like reaching a hallmark, but Thursdays just dont bring anything significant? Maybe Ill try to implement something nice to do on Thursday like some kind of ritual so I can start looking forward to Thursdays!
Thanks for your supportive and kind answer as always <3
@LinearWaves
haha..Yes, i love your "analysis" of the week!... I actually look at it in the same way! lol.....
To be honest, What I do come Thursday, is use that as my "down" time!.... I look at it like yay! I made it through most of the week, I've accomplished most things I set out to do (or if I didn't , I use that day to catch up a little)
, so that I can go into Friday totally enjoying the rest of the weekend!
@PoliteOcean
Nutrition is really important to me. There was a turning point in my life when a family member was diagnosed with stomach cancer many years ago. His diet had to change completely and that was a wake up call for the rest of us. From them on and adding other personal situations related to physical and mental health I've learned a lot in the way regarding nutrition and I keep on trying to apply all evidence based nutrinional knowledge I find. Getting fresh and cheap fruits and vegetables is easy where I live. Some things got scarce in the past months but right now things seems to be back to normal regarding supply. However, one positive outcome of the situation is that I am currently eating far less animal protein than I did before -wich was indeed only like 5-6 times a month.
Highlights past week, a huge one, I went to run again after a long hiatus. Face mask feels umcomfortable at first (it's compulsory here) but in the end you get used to it. I feel really good about it and will be back on the running path from now on. There've been some struggles in my personal life but nothing enough to stop me.
Good weekend and coming week for all of you.
@Traveller8
Hey there!
Wow...So sorry to hear about your family member. Its good that you and your family were able to take something from such a situation to help better your choices for better health moving forward. So that is surely a beneficial positive in it all.
How awesome that you were able to get out of a run! And that you felt good enough to do so. That is great for you! I'm sure it was challenging with the face mask, but its good that whereever you live is taking that into consideration right now to keep everyone safe during these times. Not every place is like that or mandates that. And yes, you do get used to it. I'm so happy for you that you are feeling good and will be working towards that path for yourself moving forward. I'm glad to hear that the personal struggles you were facing is not something that will continue to keep you down. Good for you. Continue to keep up the great progress and work that you are doing for yourself.
Have an amazing week ahead and thank you so much for taking the time to check in this week and let us know how you've been doing!
@PoliteOcean
CONGRATULATIONS! on you new Fitness certification :D I know it must be so exciting, I remember back when I thought about becoming a Zumba instructor and joining ZIN, the thought and the training was exciting. And YaY for getting back on track, vacation often does take us off the track lol
**How important to you is Good, quality, Nutrition? What are some good, healthy, quality choices that you have made or implemented for yourself during your journey?
>> Nutrition is important to keep our bodies functioning at it's optimum best, good foods are the best fuel to help our engines run smooth and long. I have really kept up with drinking water. I drink at least 64oz of water a day, I keep my water bottle handy at all times. I have also kept healthy snacks, mostly protein bars near when I start to have those sneaky cravings lol
**In what ways could you start to implement healtier choices for yourself if you have found yourself get off track recently or during these stressful times? How were you able to turn things around OR...how have you "already" gotten back on track?
>>I have been off track and on track for years. This year, since the pandemic, I started to really think about the importance of staying healthy plus having my kids stay healthy became top priority. I have talked to my kids about getting on a weightloss journey and that we are going to do it together to help encourage, motivate, and support each other. Started out with talking about the importance of drinking water, mindful eating, and exercise. Openly talking about our jouney helps. As for me, I keep a journal, I use MyFitnessPal to keep me on point.
**What will be your plans this weeken?
>>I was actually off work the weekend before Labor Day, though we, the family, didn't do much but stay home and enjoyed poolside fun and grilling
**What have been your "Highlights" or "Struggles" over this past week?
>>Gym time, I am really happy to have the gyms open again, as able to go to the gym and put in an awesome workout each time. Struggles was that monthly cravings of sweet/salty was my challenge, I made sure I had small servings of whatever I was craving, just enough to suffice haha
I think my post is long enough lol. Just wanted to check-in. Have a great week all <3
@Keola
OMG! Hey girl!!!... So great to hear from you this week!
And thank you! ... Yes I like to continue to learn as much as I can where Fitness is concerned. Its so funny that I never would have said those words 10 years ago right before I first started.
I totally remember us talking about your love for Zumba and how you were thinking of becoming an instructor at one time!.. Girl you totally should! Everything is going on "Virtually" right now and you dont' even have to leave the comfort of your own home to do it, AND... even better, there are amazing discounts at almost half off the pricing/training! Now is the best time! lol...
How awesome that you are continuing to focus on your healthy habits of drinking and getting that water in, as well as keeping healthy snack options close by! Sooooo very important for those "sneaky snack attack" moments in our lives!...Great job!
How amazing that you were one of the ones, that found yourself implementing healthier decisions and choices and that were able to get your family on board with you!... That is really great and important as well. Its so nice to have those close to you be on board with your decisions and choices. And that you have some support and accountability there! It can be so very helpful in helping to reach your goals.
Poolside fun and grilling is an awesome way to spend the weekend. I'm so glad I decided to open up and deal with having a pool again after so many years. I kind of didn't have a choice since they closed our local one and turned it into a Waterpark instead. And I HAVE to be in the water in the summer months. That family time is so nice. Glad you enjoyed.
Thats great that your local gyms have been able to open back up. I know of plenty that are still not opened yet. Ours have been opened since end of April-ish. But I still haven't gone back into one yet. I've taken all my classes outdoors to teach them....(crazy during these summer months but it worked) lol.....I know being in the gym is also so much more "Motivating" which can obviously help so much better in reaching and achieving goals. Great job on getting back there and putting in the work!... AND.... For allowing yourself those "cravings" in "Smaller" does!
Moderation is toally key! (Not deprivation!)
Thank you so much for checking in this week! Its so great to know you are still out there, and still doing so well and hanging in there on this crazy healthy living journey! Sounds like you are doing so very well and I'm so proud of you. Keep up the great work girl! And please continue to check back and let us know how your journey has been going and working for you and your family!
I re joined slimming world and lost 2 & half lb only my first week . This week I have started to do a daily workout at home due to lockdown , and gym not open .
