Reasons:

1) Gaming from years ago to now, has been such an evolution and the stories in some of the games can just be so great and so enticing.

2) Like my last answer said, some stories can be amazing and very "enticing". So enticing that sometimes, over time, you get so "gripped" into the story that you start to learn more about the characters and when something saddening, happy or anger-fuelling happens, you share that emotion.

That's why gaming is so awesome.

3) Some multiplayer games out there have really, REALLY awesome and friendly communities that just love and respect each other. Of course, you get a lot of games with trolls and such, but there are a lot of great communities in some games and you can make a lot of online friends.
