Best post-apocalyptic show ever? [The Last Ship]
My own summary of the show:
"A few cases of a mysterious virus start to appear around the world, the scientists are baffled and do not know anything about it. Meanwhile, American Navy Destroyer "Nathan James" is leaving the harbor with 200+ sailors on board to the arctic to perform a weapons test while being radio silent for 4 months. When it's time to go home, the ship tries to make contact with home, surprised to see that they can barely reach anyone and that a deadly pandemic has killed almost 80% of the population. Another surprise to the captain and the crew is when they discover that the doctor on board has been working on a vaccine since they left America and that was their real mission. Unable to reach anyone on land, the crew decides to stay at sea where it's safe to develop the cure, and their journey of rebuilding the world begins...."

What I love about this show is that they explore building the world after an apocalyptic event and the great scenes of battles between a Navy Destroyer Ship and many other creative enemies.

I watched the trailer. I did not watch an episode yet because I had to work 10 hours, but from the trailer it is definitely something I feel like I can get into. I love any kind of movie or show with suspense, action, mystery and drama. So when I watch an episode I will most definitely post what I thought of it here. Thanks for telling me about the show, I really have never heard of it before. Something new for me to watch. :)

@EddieElshabasy I have watched all 5 series at least three times! I love it! thank-you so much for posting about it! I especially loved series 5 although I hated it when it ended in almost a rush, I wanted more!
I also thought the idea of the 'red famine' was very interesting, there is a shortage of food now in some areas when farmers were suffering from covid and lockdown etc. And the way Governments changed and fell and people became more violent protecting what they had. Then there was the nod to 'Soylent Green' with the bodies fuelling the community, the only thing wrong with that was euthanising the sick but even that kind of made sense in a terrible way until Tom's family were involved.
Oh I could go on ..... also I started the book but that was so so different, although I did re-read Moby *** (how fantastic to use that as code!!) and the Old Man of the Sea

I am glad you liked it, the idea of the show is that it wasn't all about finding the cure but what comes after and what it took to rebuild a broken world.
I've rewatched it a couple of times myself. I've also loved all the action scenes and the fact that it was mostly filmed on actual Navy ships. I didn't know there were books about the show though, when I looked it up it was a different story but the same idea.
