Saturn

Here is an image I took of Saturn, famous for it's beautiful rings. Saturn actually has much larger rings than can be seen here, but only the brighter inner rings marked by a faint separation (the Cassini Division) can be resolved with a phone. It's thought that Saturn's rings are relatively new only being a couple hundred million years old, sadly as is the way of things they wont last forever and will slowly fade away over the next 100 million years too, never to be seen again. Lucky for us we happen to be alive while they're still around! 🪐
@SentryTheDefiant I was lucky enough to see it in this much resolution through a friend's telescope. Its quite something to see properly! Excellent photograph!!! Love to see some fellow astronomers out there!
That is a crazy good image ❤️ makes me want a telescope lol
@ScottishCraig
Thanks! ❤️ If you can get away from the big cities then Scotland has some of the darkest skies for it in the UK. A 6 or an 8 inch dobsonian is generally considered the best all round beginner telescope to go for and will give you some incredible views of the Moon and planets.
Yeah that's very true, and il look that up now, I'm having trouble sleeping..looking to fill time lol
@SentryTheDefiant
So beautiful 🥹
@Feyagirly
Thank you! ❤️ I hope to get the whole solar system joined together in one image. So far I have the The Sun, Moon, Jupiter, Saturn and Venus. So there's Mercury, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto (I don't care what anyone says, Pluto is a Planet to me! 😁) to go, but these are rather difficult so I'm awaiting some especially good conditions.
@SentryTheDefiant
This is an incredible capture! Resolving the Cassini Division just using a phone attached to an 8-inch Dobsonian eyepiece is seriously impressive work. The detail and clarity you pulled off with a budget setup show how much skill and patience astrophotography takes. Also love the reminder about the temporary nature of Saturn's rings—truly makes moments like this feel even more special to witness. Thank you for sharing this peek into space with all of us! 🪐✨
@ListenWithCare
Thank you so much! ❤️ Not long before this shot was also the first time I'd ever seen Saturn with my own eyes, I'll always remember that! The seeing conditions were rare for the UK and I've been kicking myself ever since because I should have taken way more data than I did, I think the image could have come out better, but I'm looking forwards to getting another chance as soon as the weather complies 😁
