Saturn

Here is an image I took of Saturn, famous for it's beautiful rings. Saturn actually has much larger rings than can be seen here, but only the brighter inner rings marked by a faint separation (the Cassini Division) can be resolved with a phone. It's thought that Saturn's rings are relatively new only being a couple hundred million years old, sadly as is the way of things they wont last forever and will slowly fade away over the next 100 million years too, never to be seen again. Lucky for us we happen to be alive while they're still around! 🪐
@SentryTheDefiant Wow, what a beautiful presence! Perfect timing!
@aquaGrapes718
Thank you! I know right, another 100 million years and it would have been gone, we just about caught it! haha
@SentryTheDefiant which camer and telescope, you have used ? Trying to get into astrophotgrapy, heard monochrome cameras are the best for this
@blissfulSoul2956
I'm using my phone camera and an 8 inch dobsonian reflector for this, not really the intended way of doing things but it works well enough and it's probably the cheapest way to do things if you already have a phone laying around.
Monochrome cameras are indeed really good, they add a lot of extra though so they're probably not recommended for beginners. If you're wanting to get into astrophotography I'd recommend watching Nebula Photos on youtube, he has a lot of great advice! AstroBackyard is a good one too.
Do you have a setup or a camera already?
@SentryTheDefiant I'm saving money for setup , and i follow astro backyard too
@blissfulSoul2956
I seen your pictures they're so good!! I bet you could get some lovely astro pics too!
@SentryTheDefiant thank youu
@SentryTheDefiant Also great capture

Thank youu! 😄
@SentryTheDefiant You are welcome~🍀🎐

@SentryTheDefiant
This is fabulous. My favorite planet. :) Now I remember when Cassini was flying through, they took pictures of one of the rings, and it was reported that the rings they were flying through were made of diamonds? I haven't been able to find anything else that says this, but it was just interesting to think about. My favorite planet, surrounded by diamond dust :)
@TovaCares76
That would be amazing if they were! I haven't heard about this myself but I'm almost sure that the rings are made almost entirely from ice. However I do remember something about it raining diamonds due to the extreme pressures in Saturn's atmosphere. That would be quite a sight to behold! 💎
Another fun thing discovered on Saturn is a strange hexagon shaped storm on it's north pole. The entire surface of the Earth could sit inside this single storm 5 times over!
@SentryTheDefiant
I knew I remembered something about diamonds lol this picture is amazing
thank you for sharing! I enjoy the people that like to look beyond our home planet :)
@TovaCares76
Oh and speaking of Cassini, this one is my favourite image from the mission!

If you look closely just underneath Saturn, and a bit to the right there's a pale blue dot, which is the Earth! (you might have to look at the linked image to be able to see it)
@SentryTheDefiant gorgeous! What did I film with?
@milkywaycitizen
Thank you! I captured this with an 8 inch reflector telescope and my phone (s26ultra) attached to the eyepiece. :)
@SentryTheDefiant wooow 💜💜💜
Love it, nice job, I appreciate your sharing of this and the description of your budget setup. Keep doing it the budget way, we don't need perfection.
@niceSugar7848
Thank you! At some point I will get a proper astro camera/DSLR but for now I'll make do with the phone. I managed to capture planetary nebula, some galaxies and a star cluster too with it! ✨
Your pic is kind of like the difference between film and digital (even though its not a film pic), we still like the nostalgia of film, the imperfections give it warmth.
