Making a change

Making a change in a system is a big challenge. It is something I failed to do too many times. With the IDG Course, I had gained valuable learnings, that it is important to have the courage to speak out, the creativity to solve complex problems, the optimism that goals will one day be achieved, and the perseverance to keep going even when things are tough.

Making a change means going out of the comfort zone and willing to experience some discomfort. Routine is especially hard to break, especially since it is what our system is already used to. So change is not an abrupt process and it does happen overnight. It takes a significant amount of effort and persistence. Motivation plays a big role as well.

What I realized is that change is more effective if it is a collaborative effort. Internally, it could mean not just changing one aspect but all aspects that will harmonize well-being. Thoughts, actions, feelings. We have to ensure all three are on board for the process, as they are interconnected. Change happens gradually that it might not even be noticeable unless significant differences have been made. One thing for sure, change is not easy. It is a challenge but it doesn't mean it's unachievable.

What internal changes will be helpful in making external changes possible?

Absolutely! I completely agree that meaningful change starts from within. Internal changes like self-awareness, resilience, and a growth mindset can make external changes more achievable. When our thoughts, actions, and emotions align with the change we want to see, it creates consistency and credibility, which makes it easier to influence systems or people around us. I also think practicing patience and celebrating small wins internally keeps motivation alive, even when external results take time!

@listeningyouout29

You are right about celebrating small wins! It is really helpful in helping us take that next step forward especially if the path is long. If we were to sprint the steps, we'll tire quickly. But if we take one step forward then breathe before taking another step, the progress becomes steady.

Internal changes that would help me create external changes include becoming more self-compassionate, confident, and emotionally open. I struggle with self-doubt, overthinking, and managing my ADHD, which can affect my productivity and relationships. Developing resilience, patience, and a healthier mindset can help me step outside my comfort zone, build deeper connections, and create positive changes in my life.
