Using Character Strengths to Tackle Challenges

One of my biggest goals is to build my career in psychology + criminology, ideally working in a field like forensic psychology. It’s exciting, but also intimidating. When I feel overwhelmed, I try to lean on my top character strengths: Love of Learning, Spirituality, and Bravery. These help me stay focused, curious, and resilient.

You can find your character strengths by taking this quiz: Character strengths survey

Creating multiple pathways, like joining the police academy, networking with professionals, or further study, helps me see that there’s more than one way to reach my goal.

Discussion Prompts:

  1. Think of a goal or challenge you’re currently facing: how can your top 3 character strengths help you move forward?

  2. What’s one alternative pathway you could explore if your original plan hits a roadblock?

@EllaListens I'm also interested in psychology and want to become a mental health counsellor, switching from another field. It's hard. But I think my strengths of appreciation of beauty, prudence and honesty can naturally apply to this path. I haven't really thought it through about alternative pathway, but maybe if I see my current job from another perspective, it is also about counselling, advising, supporting and mentoring others.
