[Updated] Communication Skills - The key to open your mind

Communication skills come from practicing. To acquired communication skills, I had to practice talking many people and about many topics. You may not believe me, but since I was a child, I have been exposed to society to practice my skills throughout my school years. Perhaps that is why I can talk and listen to others so fast, even for many minutes, many hours.

Putting yourself in the other person's shoes is very important for good conservations. Other will not know whether you understand their situation or not if you do not show your body language.

For example, a slight nod, a smile, and eye contact, if possible, all create a sense of security from you.

A sense of security is necessary for communication to become close and easier to confide in rather than you just greet them. Openness in communication only comes from being able to say your deepest thoughts, even if you know it's wrong, but just communicating about it so it can fly away. That's how my communication skills were formed.

Discussion:

Before you learnt about 7 Cups, what were your communication skills like? My learned about 7 Cups last year, but that's when I got the most support in the skills I needed. (I only reply to participants who join the discussion above. Thanks for understanding me. )

My communication skills were good before I joined seven skills, but equally I've learnt by being here, I don't always have to rush in to listen, you can sit silently with the person. Its different when it's not face to face because youve no facial cues to guide you. So you have to hone in on other skills and follow the members lead 😊

@Amanda84 Thank you for your reply. I understand that communication here is really difficult, but not impossible. Since we cannot see other people's body language, we often wait for members to speak first before responding. The advantage of online communication is that we do not have to rush to respond to others. I am also very happy that you participated in answering the question, and it is even better that you shared that you used to be very good at talking and communicating. I think this question is more suitable for people who have only known about 7 cups in the past few months. I really appreciate your reply.

@HealingwithMinionn My communication was good even before joining 7cups, I have listened to others openly since as long as I can remember. But also, I would say my skills definitely improved after I got into my relationship, and it pushed me to talk everything out clearly to avoid misunderstanding.

@HealingwithMinionn.  Before I learned about 7 Cups, I think my communication skills were… okay but not really intentional. I could talk to people, but I didn’t always think about listening deeply or showing understanding through body language. Most of my conversations were just exchanging words, not really connecting. Since joining 7 Cups, I’ve started practicing active listening, using empathy, and being more mindful about how I express myself, which has made my conversations feel more meaningful and supportive.
