I actually didn’t know that. where Israel was. idk. everytime I see or hear smth new I look it up nd learn more but other than that ofc no one learns abt that stuff or at least I never have. for the longest time I thought dubai was a country 🤷♀️ I sound dumb but I try. probably a lot of people knew where nazareth was but I didn’t even know what that was. I don’t know a lot of cities that I haven’t been to. I sound dumb but I kinda am. we switch to geography in another half term :’) but we never learn anything proper in geography. Idk. we’ll see.

😂 Yes, Israel is a country! A very small & highly contested one for a few reasons 🙄😒 but yeah...it is a real nation. I've been there. It's a very interesting place. And a tiny one. You could fit Israel inside almost any one of the states in the US & you would have plenty of space left over. (Nebraska could easily contain four Israels. Yes, really)
As far as the UAE goes, I've never been there & would go for a few days if I was up to taking a flight. (My ears don't deal with flying well) Am curious about what life is really like in most Arab countries. All we usually know over here is what the news media tells us, which sucks. The only time it tells us anything about the Middle East is when there's a war going on, or terrorism strikes, or an uprising, etc. There's gotta be more to life out there than the bad stuff.

In a nutshell, two peoples are claiming the same land. The Israelis have their case; the Palestinians have their case. Both sides want the same territory, more or less. That's it.
Other aspects of the conflict:
- Both sides have their violent fanatics which we hear about; both sides have their peacemakers who aren't nearly as well known. Yes, there are Palestinians who want peace with the Israelis...unfortunately they don't have much influence in their society. Within Israel there are also chauvinists who want all the Arabs out of Israel proper & the Palestinian territories.
- There's a religious dimension to the conflict. The majority of Israelis are ethnically Jewish & %ages of them follow Judaism to varying degrees. The Palestinians are mostly Muslim with a tiny Christian minority. There are Christian minorities within Israeli society, too. Jews & Muslims don't always get along, for theological & historical reasons. That's been true since the early 7th century.
- The Palestinians' saga is especially tragic because for decades, they have been used like pieces on a gameboard by other countries that were hostile to Israel. Though various Middle Eastern governments make much noise about the whole thing, they've never really helped the Palestinians improve their lot. Throughout the conflict, they've been pawns of rival powers...the current one is, of course, Iran. Critics of Israel claim it functions similarly as a tool of American influence & power, but the difference is Israel has a functioning (though often fractious) government. The US government cannot push Israel's too far in any preferred direction for that reason.
- A related point: many Middle Easterners resent Western influence (some call it interference) in their region &/or their countries, & consider the Israeli-Palestinian conflict a result of such meddling. To an extent their position is understandable. Islamic civilization reached its greatest power in/around the 12th century & gradually weakened thereafter. In the 19th to early 20th centuries Great Britain regularly intervened in the Middle East & in central & Southeast Asia; for decades after WW2, the dominant players were the United States & the USSR (Soviet Russia)...what was known as the Cold War. This had a marked effect on Israel & on the Arab countries surrounding it.
I tried to give you a short objective summary & still wound up posting a text wall...go figure. 😒 The whole mess does not lend itself to one-paragraph descriptions. So...who is wrong? Who is right?
