Course 3, Discussion 2: Accepting and Providing Feedback
If you prefer a video/audio explanation, please watch this video.
Some reasons why accepting feedback is important:
It helps us improve our craft/skills/ourselves
We become aware of our own short comings.
We can learn how others may perceive us.
Reasons why it can be challenging to hear constructive feedback:
We might associate it with who we are as a whole.
We may think the person giving it has lost respect for us.
It can hurt our ego.
The choice is yours! Are you willing to deal with discomfort for your greater good? If so then constructive feedback is an essential tool you must utilize.
Now let's see how to give feedback!
If you prefer a video/audio explanation, please watch this video.
Steps to give useful feedback:
Sandwich it between genuine positive feedback.
Don’t do it too often. Remember a person can only accept so much constructive feedback before it drains them. Use it sparingly.
Ask yourself what you are communicating is beneficial to the person or your own personal preference. Only provide feedback if it will help the person.
Let's practice giving constructive feedback.
This is the situation.

Hi Coffee, I hope you're doing well. You have been a wonderful addition to the team and I appreciate how you are there for others and empathize with their stories. However, I noticed that you haven't submitted or completed an assignment for the past 3 weeks. I wanted to reach out and see if everything is okay and if it's okay to take a self-care break if you are feeling overwhelmed with the assignments. Please let me know if that is the case or if you need an extension to complete your assignments.
Have a great day and I hope to hear from you soon.

Coffeeperson198 is so punctual and caring. I like their quality of having a big heart for others :). The thing they can do to become more productive than before is to make I calendar or set a timer for their tasks cause sometimes they can't complete in time. Also, I will always feel good to help them so they can reach out to me. I am all ears. Proud of him/her❤.

Hi Coffee!
How are you doing today?
I'm really impressed by your punctuality and how promptly you've been responding, it's absolutely fantastic! I'm so impressed by your time management! I just wanted to check in because you haven't completed the task you were set three weeks ago and I haven't heard anything from you regarding it. If you're struggling or need some guidance, I am here. You're not alone and I completely understand if it's daunting or if something has happened.
Is there anything I could do to support you?
Your care, compassion, and empathy for others absolutely shines through in everything you do and I want to make sure you're supported as much as the members and listeners you support are! :)
I hope to hear from you soon.

CoffeePerson198, I really appreciate how punctual and empathetic you are with the team, always responding quickly and showing genuine care for others. However, I’ve noticed that you’ve been struggling to complete the assigned tasks for the past three weeks, and it would be helpful if you could communicate any challenges you're facing so we can work together to find a solution. Keep up the great work with your responsiveness and care for the team; your contributions are truly valued!

I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the effort you've been putting into everything. Your commitment really stands out, and I love the positive energy you bring to the group. Keep up the great work! We’re all learning and growing together, and your contributions matter. 😊
@H4RIS
Great job with your mock feedback, and I enjoyed reading it. I would also reform the statement of the 3 weeks, and say something such as " I understand that things can be difficult, and if you are having difficult with completing a task" so on and so forth, because you are conveying that you want to support them. You did a great job commending them on their achievements
I feel that being a quality mentor, and LCT member has taught me the ways of positive but constructive feedback so here goes nothing lol.

My feedback response:
Good morning/afternoon or evening Coffee, I hope that you are doing well and I wanted to commend you on responding back within a timely manner, your excellent empathy as well as completing the tasks. However, I wanted to gently remind you that you must complete the tasks as the schedule allots, and I understand things happen outside of cups however I need you to communicate with me in a timely manner on things you are in need of assistance with.
@InsightfulPhoenix Hey, I like your ending line about "gently reminding" and factoring in external events as a possible cause for delay. I think it's better than my statement.
Hey Coffee, I hope your week is going well. I wanted to say good job on the work you've been doing with our members. You've been helping them out alot with your listening. Just keep me up to date on how your tasks are going, I haven't seen any updates for the past 3 weeks. If you need help with them let me know!
@SunnyCthulhu 👏🏻
@Dash0 Well done! Your message is concise and constructive.

Hi CoffeePerson198,
I appreciate your punctuality and the thoughtfulness you bring to our team. I’ve noticed that there hasn’t been much communication regarding the recent task assigned over the last three weeks. I want to ensure you have the support you need, so please let me know if there’s anything I can do to help you. I’m looking forward to working together to resolve this.
