being aro/feeling left behind
i've known that i'm somewhere on the aro spectrum for years, which i thought i'd more or less come to terms with. however, since coming to terms with that i've had this underlying fear that eventually all of my friends would start dating people, and i'd get left behind. now, most of my friends have started dating people, and i'm panicking. without a romantic partner in my life, my friends are always going to be the most important people in my life, but i feel like because i'm aro, i'll never be the most important in anyone elses life. and if that's the case, i can't help but wish i wasn't aro.
is this someone anyone else has dealt with? any advice?
I had a friend who was aro, and what happened is they lived there life.
Honestly, same. I'm also aro and sometimes I struggle too with that kind of thoughts. When I'm feeling low I go through the aromantic tag on tumblr. But what helps me more is to think that I'm living for myself, like every little improvement done is to make myself happy. I don't know how to help beside that.
Yes, absolutely. I’ve accepted that I’m on the aro ace spec, but it’s often hard to see my friends go into steady long term relationships. It’s not just envy for actually being able to love their partner, I’m also scared that in a way they are leaving me. None of my romantic relationships have ever lasted, so friends are the only constant I have in my life. Knowing that the one thing I can’t fully comprehend could be what slowly drives apart my bond with them seems a bit terrifying. Haha I’m sorry that was more rant than advice, but I want you to know you aren’t alone in this, and to not be afraid of changes. Though I cannot guarantee how your friends will act, most strong bonds (from what I see) will carry through. Even if it means seeing less of them. Don’t give up hope :)
ohhh boy I totally get this feeling. That's part of the reason I wish I could meet fellow aro/aces, just to share companionship with someone else who understands
