i’ve been “out” for over a year now. i’m pansexual and identify with she/they pronouns. i’ve always questioned my identity and i’m trying to find myself, but i get discouraged by other people. i don’t like when people call me “girl” and when i voice my opinion, they tell me they understand, but then say things like “oh it’s just a habit, get over it.” i just feel invalidated and think i should just conform to what other people see me as instead of fighting for my identity. i’ve even been told i’m not “gay enough” to be part of the lgbtq+ community. i’ve considered switching (if that’s the right term) to they/them pronouns, but i feel like people won’t care or just brush it off like they do currently. it also doesn’t help that i’m more fem-presenting so people overlook my identification as nonbinary. i want to be able to be who i am and who i want to be, but i just don’t feel comfortable because of the people around me. any help is appreciated.

@minecraftdirt

I'm so sorry you are having troubles with people around you, I can relate to this. I don't know much about lgbtq+ or gender identification, all I know is that it's hard having to hide your identity and live as a shell because no one around you understands. For me, I am trying to journal a lot and figure out what it is that I don't understand about myself, and then someday I'll write a book about my traits that I couldn't express being around people here. I will work for it for years and also will try to meet more people from other places to get more perspective on me and others. I'll also read a lot to understand. I'm working on moving out, hope you can find new people or perspective too.

I am literally in almost the exact same situation! Nobody really believes me. I'm sorry you have to go through this.

it’s a rough situation to be in. especially with people around me that have heteronormative beliefs. i don’t blame them, i just wish they could be more open-minded to these types of things.
