Gender Identity (Day 8 of Living Beyond a Label!)
Gender identity is a combination of a person’s internal experience of gender and how they express themselves externally. Gender cannot be assumed based on chromosomes, physical characteristics, clothing, or roles.
Gender identity can be separated into two main categories, cisgender and transgender. Cisgender means the person’s gender identity aligns with their sex assigned at birth. Transgender is an umbrella term for those who experience and identify with a gender other than the sex assigned at birth, and includes those who identify as genders other than man or woman.
Gender expression, also can be separated into two main categories, conforming, and non-conforming. Conforming means that a person’s behavior and appearance are in line with societal expectations of their gender identity. Non-conforming means that a person’s behavior and appearance vary from societal expectations, and may occur with both cisgender and transgender individuals.
A person may choose to use different pronouns, modify their name, appearance, manner of dress and behavior to match the gender(s) they identify with and their preferred gender expression.
Some gender identities include, agender, androgyne, bigender, demigender, gender expansive, genderfluid, genderqueer, nonbinary, omnigender, polygender, pangender, transgender, and two-spirit.
If some of these terms are new to you, I encourage you to learn more, and ask questions!
So do you see yourself in any of these terms? What are your pronouns?
How can we be more mindful of the diversity that gender identity encompasses?

@EmotionsListener great post! real quick, preferred pronouns imply that using trans/nb people's pronouns is optional, which is obviously not the case! it's okay that you didn't know, a lot of people do this unintentionally, i just think we need to be mindful of how we talk. in this case just pronouns is probably best.
@EmotionsListener
Yes but some time some communities and people judge the person just because of their behaviour and from cloths, character and from all these things
God create everybody different and everybody cannot create them self so community and other peoples need to accepts everyone as it is as God made them

I'm a cisgender woman, she/her pronouns. I've questioned my gender identity in the past beacuse I realized certain parts of what society usually associates with women don't really sit right with me. I eventually accepted that I feel as a woman no matter what, I don't necessarily have to fit into social stereotypes.
The best way to be mindful of diversity is to actually talk to people with different gender identities - talk to them, not about them. Listen, learn, don't judge, and don't generalize anything you here. It's a huge world, it takes a lot of time to discover it all, but it's a path worth taking.
@Aayla
well said!
I am they/them, and he/him in closer circles. Nonbinary is the easiest label for me.
