My family isn't really accepting

I am Spencer (not my birthname), I have tried to tell my parents plus my grandmother (who are my main guardians) that I want to go by Spencer but they just ignore it. I tried to tell my grandma about this today, but she brushed it off say she's "old fashioned and wrong" plus it isn't my "birthname". As you can see I have not been raised by the most "woke" of people.

I have no clue what to do at this point 🤷 and I am getting more mad by the year. I also don't really have friends.

Kind of just a rant but advice is appreciated 👍

@spezdispencer I am so sorry to hear that your family is struggling to accept you for who you are. I hope one day they can fully accept you just as how you are. I'm sure you are a wonderful person and you deserve to be able to be accept and cared for. I hope that you can find 7 Cups a safe place for you to be. Also, knlw that we accept you!!! ❤️ And I agree with the poster above-- you really are enough and you should always embrace that. 😀 I hope things get better for you.

Love your username btw! Very creative <3

@spezdispencer hi Spencer, I'm so sorry you're going through this. Family should be a safe shelter, a place of support and acceptance, not judgement. Whatever happens, don't let them or anyone make you feel like there's something wrong with you or you haven't got a right to express your identity and have it respected. You have that right, and who you are is perfectly ok.

Going through this without a support network is tough, especially if you don't have trusted and close friends to compensate for your family's lack of acceptance. You might try reaching out for the LGBT community, if there are any circles or associations near you. You could find supportive people there, exchange experiences and tips, and make sure you don't feel alone.
Trust me, one day you are going to find "your people", your chosen family. Hold on until that day comes, make sure to take some time and space to take care of yourself and express your identity (even if just through some little things like your appearance), and remember it's ok to be who you are.
