Am I faking it?

Hi everyone, my name is Micaela and I’m on my twenties. Two years ago I met some people who showed me a different reality about the LGBTQ+ community. For my entire life I lived in a country where queer people were afraid of showing who they really were. And when I did this exchange programme in this new country I met those open minded people, and they showed me what I was missing… I felt like that was the place I really wanted to live in forever. After that experience I started questioning my sexuality, I started thinking about myself as someone who is “confused” or “curious”, never sure about what I liked, and probably faking this open mind. Nowadays I define myself as bisexual, but I’ve never experienced a relationship with a girl. And if I’m actually straight? If I just like the community? If I have a girlfriend and don’t find what I expected? Can I be in love with someone of my gender, but not sexually attracted to them? Does this mean that I like some people more than others, depending on their appearance? I’m so confused right now… I just don’t understand what is going on with me. My family is not a safe place for LGBT and I’m afraid of asking them for help. I’m sorry if I offended anybody, I just wanted to talk to someone who could understand my situation…

@micaelaboo

Hey, you haven't offended, don't worry. You have done a really good job explaining how things are for you. Remember your feelings are valid :)

@micaelaboo
You did not offend anybody.😊 Questioning sexuality can be really hard, especially when you belong to a family and/or country who doesn't really support Lgbtq. I personally think it's easier to express ourselves or our sexuality around people who are non-judgmental, open-minded and accepting and vice-versa. I wish you all the best! I know you can figure out who you are!💙

Micaela, the things that you talk about, the question you ponder, they are all things we all thought about at one point. I think it's part of growing up, where we learn more about the world, others, and also ourselves. Keeping an open mind like you do will help you find what you truly want in the end, regardless you are bi, or gay, or straight. Haopy soul searching and good luck!

@micaelaboo one of the things you mentioned was not knowing if you were attracted to girls sexually or just romantically. i just want to say that there is a vast difference between the two and romantic attraction is just as valid as sexual attraction. you could be heterosexual and biromantic, or asexual and biromantic, or bisexual and biromantic. and whether or not you've dated a girl doesn't define your sexual/romantic orientation. i know bisexuals that have only dated one gender. (also, bisexuality isn't just 50% attraction towards each gender, it can be 30% males and 70% females, it can be 5% females and 95% males)

i hope this helps :)
