Hello. There was a time I checked out both SLAA (Sex and (sick) Love Addicts Anonymous) and SA (Sexaholics Anonymous) when I tried to heal my trauma after being a witness of abuse at very young age. Sadly, it didn't help...
I think one of the most common misunderstanding is some people treat recovery from sex and love addiction the same way as chemical addictions (like from alcohol or drugs), whereas it should be treated more like other self-harm behavioural patterns (like eating disorders).
Because the goal of healing here is not getting rid of love and sex from our lives (as some people are really trying to), but making them healthy and normal.
I am not sure how these 12 Steps communities are working now (I've heard their awareness and openess improved through the years).
But I can recommend a movie: "Thanks for Sharing" (2012). I think the film shows some very valuable observations about that problem with honesty and depth, but no disastrous kind of thinking and no dogma.
Came here with same question...
Trying to discern difference between natural desire and my accelerated desires. I only recently (few years ago) recognized and began recovery on love addiction. Feel good about progress I made and seeing the fruits of being healthier. But that struggle is now replaced with struggle of choosing one person (mind, eyes, body) to be intimate with, but they are pushing me away and I am not sure how much longer I can go without giving in.
@ay2891 All struggles are overcome with determination.
