Heya awesome Mindfulness people! I hope your day has been going well for you so far

When we're angry or stressed or overwhelmed, we just want to get things done and over with and we can tend to be snappy and not have the energy or willpower to think things through. We might even act or say things without thinking! It is in these times that taking a pause is very essential.

❄️ Which steps do you take to calm down in irritating or overwhelming situations?

I put on music that is soothing light a candle and sit and just relax o my bes is going to the ocean or water near my house and just sit and listen to the outside world- birds flying by or the occassional fish jumping out of the water.

Soothing music and listening to nature are good ways to calm down :)

@LexIris thank you for this check inyes Man this is so important to know. As I used to spout off right away as I was so so angry. Well.........more control I have now a days- not perfect tho. I listen to whatever the person has to say. Or sometimes I have to excuse myself, as my opinion does not matter at this time. I sometimes will call my friend and vent. Or in my room with music and breathe. I have this image on my phone cover. So I goes off all the time as a reminder to me. Slow down Rumpleheart

@RumpleSteeleSkin

Taking time away from the situation is really important since staying there might just make you feel worse. Venting also helps a lot

@RumpleSteeleSkin Hey, you said that you have an image on phone cover. What's the image? smiley

Yes it is the same image you used for this tread. I decided to have that on my phone as it's true I take it every where. So when I need to focus quickly I look at my phone.

@LexIris

Which steps do you take to calm down in irritating or overwhelming situations?

The first thing I do is take a deep breath. And be aware of my breathing

Thanks for this thread Lexi

@soulsings

Deep breaths and focusing on your breath also works as well :)

@LexIris

It really depends on how bad I am. Sometimes just shutting everything off and sitting in the dark helps. I take a nice candel light bubblebath or just go for a walk.

In order to calm down in irritating or overwhelming situations I like to do a variety of things depending on the situation.

When I'm feeling irritated I like to take a breather, I tend to leave the room to be by myself and just focus on my breathing. Feeling irritated can sometimes lead to panic attacks so I try to use the grounding method occasionally to make sure this doesn't happen.

If I'm in an overwhelming situation I tend to do the grounding method or a distraction method I've used before where I focus on one thing (such as a speech or song) and recite it in my head to calm down.

Grounding is a really good way to stay calm and prevent yourself from having a panic attack. Focusing on your breath is also good :)

@HappyDucky8

Yeah, I get that. I used to be that like that as well. You could try leaving the situation that's making you angry and you could maybe listen to music or take a walk or do something you love. Some people say that deep breathing helps them as well :)

@LexIris When I get angry (which is barely), I stay quiet, don't talk for a few hours and say sorry (even if it isn't my fault).
