Daily Mindfulness Check-In October 25, 2022
It hurts me hearing how careless people talk about people with mental challenges. I wish people would understand that this is not what others choose to have and also that mental challenges can affect everyone, it's not a sign of weakness. It would also be much nicer using words like "anxious" instead of "crazy".
What do you wish everyone would pay more attention to in today’s life?

I would love to see more people not be so judgemental of others when they won't even try to get to know the person, rather we look at how they look, how they talk, the clothes they wear, and who they hang out with. Stuff that is irrelevant to who the person is. Why oh why are we like this and to have anything or be different than other people are you get singled out and downplayed it is wrong on all playing fields in my book. We are all humans and deserve to be who we are.
The old saying goes"Don't Judge Me Till you've walked a Mile in My shoes"
Just my view
@scarletPear1945 That is a very good saying.
I wish there was more mental challenge awareness. Students should have to take classes to learn about mental disorders/disabilities. Learn about the signs and symptoms and how to support those with mental challenges. Some people are neurodivergent and just think differently than most people. I have Bipolar 1 Disorder. Also education on different physical disabilities or challenges.
@amiablePeace77
I wish people were more educated about mental health or more interested about heart and soul not just body. When I was in college I was really depressed just moved out from hospital. My roommate just told me to get up and put myself back together. It was so painful. It hurt so much. I was not in bed because I was lazy. I had zero energy. It still hurts but I forgive her.
I wish people would take more personal responsibility for themselves in general :) Be more mindful of their own thoughts, actions, decisions, emotions. Imagine a world where everyone was in tune to themselves! How wonderful!
@amiablePeace77
it is hard because there is such a stigma around mental health but we must remember we are dealing with often silent battles and are so strong.
@amiablePeace77
I wish people would learn more about empathizing, and not deal with people who are differently mentally or physically abled in a negative light and have pity on us while comparing us to others because the word says we are disabled.
One of the examples is that, on LinkedIn, dyslexic thinking can now be put as one of our skills, it represents creativity and a different approach in a workplace. It's I think one of the recent updates of LinkedIn.
I'm sure this is just one of the examples, I see there are things/places/websites(like this massive one) that are accommodating and accepting for people like me - who have dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, undiagnosed ADD and dyspraxia, and other physical mental differently abled people, but I don't see it enough in real life/online.
I would love companies (and people in general) to put on their thinking caps for us, so that getting jobs can be easier and we don't have to fight over this massive competition of the job market to get there.
More mental health resources and spaces should be made available, accessible, affordable, people-friendly, accommodating be it a workplace, or a school or an institution or a course class or a college or an on site work site, or for people in general to create that awareness and acceptance and acknowledgement that we can function but in a different kind of an environment. It plays a crucial role.
@Overthinker13579TU
I think it would be of great advantage to the world looking more at what people can offer when given the right conditions instead of what things they can't do but the so called average person can. We might miss out many more excellent thinkers than we believe. This is from a study July 2022 https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2022/07/dyslexia-enhanced-abilities-studies/
"Dyslexia should be redefined as a strength rather than a disability, researchers at the University of Cambridge suggest. The neurological condition is linked to “enhanced abilities” in areas like discovery, invention and creativity."
I hope with more awareness and the spreading of information through studies it will be easier for you and everyone else, not only what concerns dyslexia but all mental and physical challenges.

Thanks for posting this.
I wish people stop separating them from the Society . They're just normal people struggling with mental health challenges which we may also face. We should be patient, kind and empathetic. I don't know why people make them believe its a incurable disease.
I was 13 when I lost my grandpa .I couldn't cry and was drowning in sadness. Everyone around me including my family made me feel that I am alone and this sadness won't end .As a result I started having anxiety attacks. It was so terrifying and terrible. I was losing my mind and it was affecting my health so badly. Therapies, hypnosis, medicines nothing worked. Plus everyone was behaving like i have some incurable disease. No one was listening to me and my thoughts. All were busy in making opinions, giving advise. I was like a experimental rat . Anxiety attacks were getting more terrible with time that I had to be admitted in hospital everytime i get it. Seriously I would have died if I hadn't made my mind to fight it. I was tired of everything and everyone. I wish 7 cups was there at that time. I decided to get back to my routine, stopped listening to others even to my family and visited places where I had memories with my grandpa. Started going to sports class which i stopped after anxiety. I just go to the class, sit and watch others practising, playing. After 1 month i felt like i was getting normal, i started talking and laughing with my friends. Started expressing myself, felt more calm and peaceful. Then I was back to my normal life like going to school, practising for tournament and was feeling like its the real me back to life . I stopped explaining and listening to everyone.
I would say i got the best help from my school and sports class in recovering from anxiety.In school, everyone treated me normally like before and helped me with notes, homework. Even teachers weren't pressuring for anything. Everyone was so patient with me. I was enjoying myself, with friends and routine. Also in sports class, thought I wasn't allowed to practice for 2-3 months due to my health but they kept me busy in class and made me laugh. After 3 months of practice i participated in nationals and won gold medals in two individual events.Somehow my life was saved and i recovered completely from anxiety with the help of wonderful people.
We don't need any magic to recover from mental health challenges, just need others to understand it and treat with love and patience.
This was my story. I hope it helps to understand how important it is treat everyone with compassion and not to push anyone while struggling with mental health challenges.(Sorry for spelling and grammatical mistakes)
@TheAlchemist1111
Thank you for sharing your story with us, it really touched my heart. I'm so glad that you had such supportive people at school and in your sports class to help you to cope and heal after having felt misunderstood and lost. Feeling understood and embraced by others does make a difference!
@amiablePeace77
Thankyou for the kind words. Listening is a therapy in itself.
@amiablePeace77 Respect
Mental illness is just that, an illness. Only it doesn't show on the outside.
What I so craved for when I was severely depressed (a one off that I beat with no help) was someone calling me, just saying "I feel for you and I love you". Of the partner saying "made some tea, come sit down". Not "would you like some tea" or "let's have some tea". No, a loving yet firm invitation that gives you no choice. One that touches you so you cannot run. People so avoid you. Understandable yet you so crave for connection.
@dukeofdearham
Knowing someone truly cares and wants to be with you to give you comfort just feels like putting a healing balm on a wound.
@amiablePeace77,
that is so true. But it is, speaking from experience, so hard to try and do when your partner (which was me) is not in a good place. You have to be very aware, putting down your own boundaries, leading your own life, not trying to fix, not being sucked in. And not take anything personal.
