Meditation/mindfulness has actually caused my anxiety to largely subside. I used to be constantly anxious, and I lost all hope of that ever changing.
I did learn about meditation/mindfulness throughout my life, but it never really clicked. It wasn't until recently that I found it working, and that was due to a video I watched on meditation.
The essence is something like this: "If you can see the mountain, you're outside the mountain." It means acknowledging your feelings rather than avoiding them, but viewing them from a distance. With mindfulness, you can come to understand your own worries and fears, and accept them. That way, you can mentally work on them.
The beauty is you can do this anywhere, any time. It doesn't necessarily mean you'll have an empty mind, but it will be clearer.
I don't know, it's really working for me. I wish I could remember the person in the video so I could credit them and others could watch for themselves.
