Mindfulness Check-In Oct. 3-6, 2024

World Animal Day is an event held on October 4th of each year and is geared toward having a positive influence on changing how we treat our animals.
Encouraging people to know about this event is important because all animals deserve respect.
Here are some ways you can participate in this day:
Eat vegan or vegetarian for the day
Create a social media post to raise awareness
Give your own fur babies extra love and treats
What is something you have learned from animals or that you just find amazing about them?

I love the picture of that stretching cat, so cute!
Animals are wonderful. When I look at the all the different ways animals live, reproduce, socialize, it gives me a deeper appreciation of and comfort with the diversity of humanity too. :)
The way seahorses reproduce is very cool. The females deposit their eggs inside the pouch of a male seahorse, within which they get fertilized. Gestation occurs within the male seahorse's body, and once mature, the new father gives birth to many seahorse babies.
We're currently seeing an alarmingly rapid loss of biodiversity on the planet, with vast species of animals and other life on the planet going extinct. While the planet has had mass extinction events in the past due to the climate changing naturally on its own, this mass extinction event (known as the Holocene extinction) is made remarkably worse due to human activities heating the planet beyond its normal thresholds due to carbon emissions. The current rate of extinction of species is estimated at 100 to 1,000 times higher than natural background extinction rates and is increasing.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holocene_extinction
In other words, we're predominantly what's causing this mass extinction event.
We can also fix it.
Indigenous lands make up around 20% of the Earth’s territory, containing
80% of the world’s remaining biodiversity—a sign Indigenous Peoples are
the most effective stewards of the environment.

Yet they and their cultures, languages, and human rights and land rights are being systematically erased by governments worldwide, in the pursuit of industry. The same industries which are destroying the climate.
Supporting indigenous peoples being able to have the right to self-determination and to steward their lands - without interference or imposition from industry and the governments who back them - can help stop biodiversity loss worldwide, and in fact, revitalize and restore both them as peoples (stopping the erasure of their languages and cultures which would otherwise allow them to exist as peoples and transmit their knowledge and ways of life orally, as they've done for time immemorial) and all other life on the planet, including all our favourite animals on the planet and indeed, all humans too.
Animals are wonderful. Let's protect them and all other life on this beautiful planet of ours. 💕🌏💖🌎

@Zeraphim
Thank you for this informative post and the links you gave! I hope many will read it. It is very saddening to see what happened to this beautiful planet but together we can work on not making things worse as they are and help to increase biodiversity again. We are not the owners of this planet but guests who are allowed to stay here for a while. Mother Nature is our host.
I never knew what you mentioned about seahorses! Thank you for teaching me something new!
This cat shows us how to stretch the right way! Is this an upward facing dog (yoga) or cat?! 😊
@amiablePeace77 for 18 years I only knew dogs and hairy scarys (spiders) exsisted. So finding out and learning about the animal kingdom theese past few years has been mindblowing. There are sooo many! If you haven't seen a clip of a crocodile running, I would seriously watch it, they are so comical😂😂 birds are one of my favourite animals, I like to watch them outside, I often wonder what it would be like to be a bird.And of course my little piggies are just so amazing I love them soooo much ❤ oh and I do an amazing seagull impression if anyone wants to see? ❤
@Tinywhisper11
I believe you are the best piggy mommy they could ever ask for 😀. Crocs are fun to watch running on a video, but I would not attempt to have a closer encounter with tbh!
So happy that you find joy in learning all these new things! Keep on what you're doing, you do great!
I would love to see your seagull impression, here is a link if you want to show it https://www.7cups.com/forum/mindfulness/CreativeMoments_1387/
