Mindfulness Daily Check-In March 20, 2020

Hello everyone out there, how are you doing?
When we receive bad news, our fight and flight response is activated, and this happens every time we hear something which feels threatening. Some of us are more affected than others naturally, some of us have learned to keep calm by training the mind with mindfulness meditation others, however, show increased levels of anxiety. Now, the thing is, if you get the same bad news over and over again the fight response is still activated, maybe not as strong as the first time but it comes alive.
So today, I like to invite everyone to have an honest view at their news consumption in general.
Do you read the bad news first?
Do you engage in news binge watching?
Hope to hear from you about this

@amiablePeace77 I do not binge watch and I try to monitor my intake and mood. When mood is not good avoid the news. Too much of it can drag me down.
@soulsings this is good actions you are taking to limit negativity coming in. I like that you do these things to keep YOU in a good space. Please keep yourself safe and healthy
@RumpleSteeleSkin thanks !
Do you read the bad news first?
Seems like most news is bad. I don't try to read bad news first. I read it in the order it is presented.
Do you engage in news binge watching?
I try not to. I have a history of binge watching and that makes me anxious and overwhelmed. Right now I'm limiting my exposure. Trying to find the balance between appropriately informed and overloaded.
@SecretlyMe good to see you here today
Having a way of order on how you take in news is a good thing. If I do not see or hear the news I am fine to do it this way-lol It is good that you know you can easily binge watch on news and such and that it does make you anxious and overwhelmed. It is a great idea on being mindful of finding that balance in order to keep you safe and healthy. Please do keep yourself healthy and safe out there
@amiablePeace77 Thank you again for another good check-in for us![]()
Do you read the bad news first?
I guess for me this is 50/50 for me. I tend to read most bad news late. As far as what is going on now around the world with this virus it has affected my family and me a bit. My oldest is graduating this year and we are on hold now. Our school board is going to have no return back to school this year as well. We are waiting for the final call on that one. As for me and nursing school we are on hold of State Testing and graduating. BUT they decided in our practice labs they are turning one area into a simulation area so we can get state approved skills checked off and move forward. Also we all can find jobs and get hired as RN's.
Do you engage in news binge watching?
No. My oldest one does so I have to make her get off the tv as well as electronics. She has anxiety issues so I do not allow that in the house much no more. Enough to be informed and then no more. As we all react to it all and then worry and feel we need to stock up or clean things or ourselves more.
So best to control what we take in
@RumpleSteeleSkin
This virus changed everyone's life at least to some extend, for some more for others less but nothing is really like before anymore for many people. Hope your oldest anxiety will lessen when disconnecting more from electronics and not listening also so much to news anymore.
Great idea with respect to the simulation so things can move forward. Wish you best of luck with it.
@amiablePeace77
I don't do either of those things! I'm very careful about what I read first thing in the morning. It has a deep impact on my mood throughout the day! I usually avoid Twitter in the AM.
@betterchoices Good to see you
It is good that you are very mindful of what goes into your brain intake and how it affects you if you do. I'd love to become this disciplined as you and not pick up my phone so early in the morning. Good job! Please do be safe and healthy
@RumpleSteeleSkin I find it's okay to pick my phone if I go on 7cups or something!!
@betterchoices yes it is![]()
Do you read the bad news first?
I don't, I like to start my day with good news. It's hard somedays though to find.
Do you engage in news binge watching?
I do not, I only look online once a day. Keeps myself calm that way.
@Goldcherry2113 good to see you! Yes hun at times waking up to good/positive news is hard to find. So then the bad news comes first. But at least you try daily. You are very disciplined and mindful to only go online once a day. Keep up this good habit. Please keep yourself healthy and safe
