When our brain lies to us

It's one thing to recognize that our thoughts may be flawed, but it's another to untangle them. Our minds continuously help us learn, grow, and thrive, shaping us into who we are. To process the vast amount of information we encounter throughout our lives, our brains often employ tricks and shortcuts. However, this can sometimes lead to overthinking and cause our minds to go off track.

Cognitive errors occur when our brains tell us things that may not be accurate, distinguishing between good and bad, or truth and lies. There are six common ways our brains can mislead us:

1. **Overgeneralization**: This occurs when we focus on a situation as a whole and overlook specific truths.

2. **Emotional Reasoning**: This happens when we allow our feelings to dictate our perception of reality. It’s important to recognize that our emotions are part of our experience, but they don't always reflect the truth.

3. **All-or-Nothing Thinking**: This is when we see things in black and white, failing to recognize the nuances in between. We often take things at face value without considering other perspectives.

4. **Mental Filter**: This cognitive error makes us focus solely on negative outcomes, events, or interactions. While we may recall positive experiences with warm feelings of accomplishment, we tend to dwell on the negatives.

5. **"Should" Statements**: This describes the habit of second-guessing ourselves with phrases like "I should have" or "I could have." We often reflect on what we should have said or done, judging ourselves against what we wish we would have accomplished.

6. **Mind Reading**: This involves making quick assumptions about others’ thoughts or feelings without evidence. It’s essential to think things through before acting or speaking to avoid potential regret.

When we want to do something, it's important to think it through carefully to ensure it’s done without problems. We should strive to thrive in life without jumping to conclusions.

Honestly, no, with conversations I am straight from the cuff, say it as it is, am honest, as a listener I have had to hold back and learn more about myself 💜💕

How mindful are you when you're doing something or having a conversation?

I keep training myself to come back to the conversation or what I am doing when my mind wanders. It is getting quicker and easier to know when I have wandered off and kindly bring myself back.

Those thinking mistakes, being aware of them, for me, makes thinking much softer and easier. Thanks for posting. 💙
