Mindfulness helps us quit unhealthy habits- stop smoking, stop drinking.  stop over eating, and sometime stop procrastinating with things needing to be done.  Mindfulness helps you train you into changing how to relate to a certain crave.

You quit by changing the behavior making you realise the habit is no longer rewarding. The craving we have are like a rapid waveby reaching there peak and then intensify and then break away and fade.  Mindfulness bring you to the current state of mind to help you quit things, eating, smoking, drinking, drug addiction and quitting in life altogether.

Mindfulness begins by using meditation, telling yourself to stop doing things you do not need to do.  This is known as getting unstuck. You begin to get stuck in something your doing or something your trying to stop and can not get past the first level of being unstuck.

Quitting does not mean your a failure it just means your going at thing in a different manner. People stop smoking because of health reasons, stopping it is hard ( I am 321 days of not smoking) you need to willpower to change.

When you quit doing things you are in a survival mode to stop bordem, stress, and anxiety. When you use mindfulness you are taking yourself off of auto-pilot and cessing from continuing to do things. The following is known as a STOP technique

S stop:  Pause what you are doing mentally and physically and set off the auto-pilot.

T take a breath:  Sit down and do breathing exercises to calm yourself down. This helps ground your nervous system.

O observe:  Look at what you are doing at that present time without self-judging yourself.

P proceed  mindfully:  Instead of just giving up or quitting, make a chocie to change the situation and continue on with life.
