Daily Check-In Oct. 12, 2018
HAPPY FRIDAY AGAIN to everyone, how are you people doing today?
Today's post is about
Learning to become comfortable with uncertainty
Research shows us that a major trigger for GAD worry is uncertainty. The problem is that almost everything in life is uncertain because no one can predict the future.
But how can we get comfortable with this uncertainty? Here is one exercise.
Try out new (but low-risk) experiences
e.g. trying out a new dish on the manual in the restaurant or going, go to a place (e.g. a shop, park) where you would normally not go.
Thanks to its neuroplasticity, the human brain thrives when encountering the unknown. The surest way to provoke the imagination and intellect is to seek out environments you have no experience with so a psychotherapist in California.
This is building your tolerance for uncertainty so that when bigger things happen—a move, a job change, divorce—youll be better equipped to handle them.
What do you think about this idea and if you like to share what could you do?

for me, new things are a part of my life, they happen regularly; which is actually quite surprising since i lead such an insular (sheltered) life. but there are new ways to get dog food delivered, new ways to deal with the delivery company, new doctors, new dentists, new support agencies with new paperwork... and that's just the big stuff. running out of one of my favorite spices and having to substitute was a BIG NEW THING. i'm particular about my food, and do most of my own cooking, because i like it just the same.
i do believe that my curiosity and the need to address changes that i didn't choose have been two of the things that have kept my brain flexible and able to heal.
@GustyOne4U
I feel you. For me it's video games. If an enemy or a situation was unsettling in a video game to me it would go on the shelf for years to be forgotten and then sold off. Then it turned into 9 months, and then 1 month with a few days of trying to get past the unsettling event, and then eventually just charging through the anxiety inducing moments until I make it through.
Or business phone calls. I would write entire scripts for whatever situation that could possibly happen regarding my call, and then panic and hang up if they said something that I didn't plan out. Then I went to simply writing a single script of what I needed, and either dealing with a conversation going unplanned, or hanging up when I got too panicked. Then I just started writing bullet points and improv. Oh, and I don't hang up on people if they say stuff I don't expect anymore.
@Singeleybee53
You seem to have come a long way and tried a lot of different ways. Unexpected situations can be overwhelming, I am happy to hear that you succeeded in staying on the line now. It's an achievement ![]()
@Singeleybee53

Congratulations~! Keep up the grrrrreat work ~!
@amiablePeace77
Hi Peace thank you for this check in
This reminds me of the skills I had to work on dealing with social anxieties. I do agree with doing somethings regularly that we are not familiar with. New things broaden our thinking, skills and the way we react.
@amiablePeace77 this is a great idea: practicing uncertainty. Some of the ancient teaching stories the master says "Is that so?" or "Uncertain" answering statements or questions.
"I do not know." is not an admission of inadequacy but maybe saying "We cannot know for sure."
@soulsings
very wise words soul - thank you for sharing
@amiablePeace77 you are welcome.
@soulsings
my baby brother was a great philosopher, garnered from much suffering; he liked to say "SO WHAT?"
@amiablePeace77 This is a really great point! I've actually been thinking a lot about this lately. My life right now is back and forth between three places. Even if I can't go new places, I'm going to try some new things. Thank you for giving me the push to start!!
