Forum Discussion - Multi Dimension of Mindfulness!
Hey Lovely Folks of 7 Cups Of Tea,
I hope you are doing good and your weekend was awesome! I appreciate your engagement and valuable thoughts on the forum discussions of Mindfulness Center here! Due to your awesome thoughts we are learning and gaining better perspective of mindfulness and its practice.
However, I hope you know that mindfulness is multi dimensional. And, I want to draw you attention to three interesting dimensions of it which could help you to build a better life to lead!
Dimension #1. Gratitude
Mindfulness Generates Gratitude. Practicing mindfulness can help you to pause, reflect and gain understanding of things around you and in yourself.
Just imagine if you are in distress or upset, but you guide your mind to be grateful for the good things happened in the day or a week. You could find that distress or sadness reducing and happy hormones getting generated in your mind and body.
I'd like to quote the words of Les Brown,
"In every day, there are 1,440 minutes. That means we have 1,440 daily opportunities to make a positive impact.
So, I am not saying you to figure out those 1440 daily opportunities but just couple of them to understand what you learned and how it could help you to grow as a better person. A nice way to deal with your emotions!
So, if you want to practice mindfulness, practice gratitude!
Dimension #2. Distraction
Just imagine you're in distress or in a bad mood. I understand that in that state you can't even think of mindfulness. Because mind is engaged with attending those emotions which you experiencing in that minute.
But how about trying to shift your focus on something else than on what causing you that emotion. That shift or distraction will allow you to stay mindful in the situation. As per studies, mindfulness is useful in stilling anxiety or reducing the pain by focusing on something else.
Let me share an incident in brief, when I was kid, I was scared with the name of injections. But whenever I was sick and needed to get that, my parents used to ask me about chocos and sweets while Doctor giving that injection! And, without crying and feeling much pain, I was used to take it.
So, what was that? Distraction! My mind was distracted due to chocos and sweets thing. You could also try that to build your life mindfully.
Just a TRY?
Dimension #3. Social Interaction as Mindfulness.
Whenever I am taking training sessions and interacting with my trainees, I can sense their confusions or what probably going in their mind during the session. It helps me to try to resolve their confusions or whatever in their mind so that session get completed effectively.
So, you can see how socializing could help you to be mindful. You know most of the time we are busy in solving others issues but unable to find one for own. Maybe because we get a better perspective of other's situation than own? Because for own problems, our mind trapped in that problem.
So, sometimes, speaking with others (Friends, Collegues, a Listener on 7Cups or a fellow member) could help you to get a better perspective of own situation as well and you could deal with it mindfully.
Isn't it interesting dimension?
So, these were few dimensions which I hope you find helpful/ useful. :)
Now, let's try to have a discussion about "Multi -Dimension of Mindfulness!"

4. Could you share some dimensions you could think or know to practice mindfulness?
I try to do meditation and force myself to think something pleasurable in that way for that time being. I dunno know though if that's a dimension or not.

i like your post, it brought my thoughts "back to basics"
if something negative comes up and it is not very disturbend i try to think "just a thing that happened" and distract me with something positive, so i use apart from mindfullness meditation distraction but i think i will try chatting more as well
apart from meditation etc. i find massage, self-massage, massaging a loved one or a loved pet is very mindfull
@ASilentObserver
Thank you for this discussion!
1. After reading this post, how did you feel? I feel refreshed. It is so easy to fall into the trap of thinking that mindfulness is just sitting down and meditating with crossed legs (practicing mindfulness can include this, though; no problem).
2. Out of three dimensions, which one you use mostly? I think I use distraction the most. To me, distraction simply means practicing mindfulness--being in the present moment, which helps me not think about the future or past.
3. Which one of the above mentioned 3 dimensions are you going to try and why? I am going to try all of them, but I am going to work on cultivating more gratitude in my life for the small things that I tend to take for granted. When I am mindfully doing a chore, for example, I am more apt to be thankful to have that chore to do and experience as some people can't or don't have the tools necessary to do the chore.
@EmunahHere I appreciate that you feel refreshed after reading it, Emunah. :) I see that you practice distraction to stay mindful and that's really a nice way to practice mindfulness. And, I appreciate your spirit to try all the dimensions to experience its better impact in your life. Wonderful inputs.
Thank you!
1. After reading this post, how did you feel? Well the gratitude part was a big help as there's a very ungrateful love one in my life and it's pretty hard to break them from that bad habit so as much as I appreciate things that are done and given to me I understand that they are not me and I have to work with them.
2. Out of three dimensions, which one you use mostly? Ummm gratitude
3. Mindfulness is all about practice. Its multi-dimensional. Which one of the above mentioned 3 dimensions are you going to try and why? Definitely not distraction as I'm easily distracted anyway and need to be able to focus on things that are important as much as I can using it as a tool in mindful wouldn't be good for me. So I'll go with gratitude because I'm trying to teach one of my little ones to be more grateful she's very ungrateful when it comes to a lot of things and doesn't realise that it genuinely hurts those who do nice things for her feelings. Although the socialising with others is nice sometimes, I've learnt that it isn't always a good thing.
4. Could you share some dimensions you could think or know to practice mindfulness? Hmm tbh I can't think of any right now wish I could sorry I usually meditate or write in my journal or try to practise optimism
@astray Brilliant inputs Astray! Thank you for sharing with us.
You're right about practicing gratitude because it feeds your mind with positivity and you feel better which allow to get a better and clear perspective of anything and help you to deal with it effectively.
Looking forward to learn more from you about mindfulness.
Thanks! :)
