Lets wash dishes together
Hi how many of us wash dishes?
How many of us just go to the sink run water add soap and complain in our minds or out loud of how many cups evryone uses?
Well lets try it this way, with mindfulness together
Walk into the kitchen, notice what time of day it is. Is the sun out? Is it raining? Is it day or night? Walk to the sink now, yes those dirty dishes need cleaning. Start the water- notice that it always starts out being cold, then gets warm. Adjust the water. Now add the soap. Do you notice how the soap has a smell you might like? Does little bubbles come out as you put the soap bottle away. (mine does)
As the bubbles make more and more and you add the dishes in, some might stink, some feel greasy or sticky. Notice that. How does the water feel? Nice and warm. As you start to clean the dishes keep your thoughts on just washing the dishes, the water and the bubbles. If your mind wonders thats ok, accept this and bring your thoughts back to the dishes.
Now that some dishes are washed, rinse time. How does the water feel on your hands? What does the water sound like? How does the dish feel now that it is washed and rinsed? It feels smooth smells clean and wet-right?
As you keep finishing the dishes notice how the rack maybe filling up. Maybe your mind if wondering where they will all go. Just keep your mind with stacking the dishes in the rack. Now the dishes are done and the water is going down the drain. Can you smell the soap still? What does it sound like? How does the sink full of bubbles feel on your hands?
Now see how washing dishes wasnt a hassle, or your thoughts werent all over? And you enjoyed and was in the moment of washing dishes. Please next time you need to wash dishes try it this way
@RumpleSteeleSkin
This is wonderful Rumple! You must be able to read my mind. Doing dishes is not my favorite thing and I have never thought of doing it this way. Thanks for teaching us mindfulness in the small things:)
@RumpleSteeleSkin that sounds like so much fun that I am sad: I already did the dishes
Oh well there will be more dishes soon and I can try that. Thank you so much for sharing that.
@soulsings

@soulsings - do 'em again!

@RumpleSteeleSkin This is a really good mindfulness practice. I've done this before and also read about it in mindfulness books. +1
