"Do not get angry!!"

I am sure many of you got this reminder time to time by different people in different places or situation. Regardless of -- difficult situation or highly stressed.

But, it is not easy. I cannot say I like getting angry. I do not like to experience this emotion because it brings the worst out of me at times. It happens. I never saw when becoming angry helped me to find the solution or improve the situation in any way. Rather, it gets more difficult.

I am not pleased. We are not pleased. You are not pleased to have such emotion. We tend to jump to the conclusion or judgment when feeling frustrated.

We are reminded to stay calm, stay aligned with our values and ethics, stay present, breathe and practice mindfulness. But when we feel the anger, nothing much comes up in mind to execute unless you practicing mindfulness for a long period and know how to process the emotions.

Before we practice mindfulness or try to be present at the moment, it is good to know what are we focusing on. So, we are focusing on this energy. The energy that exists in our body that is responsible to react whenever we feel stressed, irritated or frustrated. It blocks everything.

It resists you to think clearly. And when you do not think clearly, you tend to frustrate, put blame on others, or even flight or fight.

So, we need to focus on this energy. Guide this energy into a constructive and positive way.

As a human, we are not prepared to be comfortable in an uncomfortable situation. So what could we do is use this resistance in a constructive way.

I know it is easier said than done. But to cultivate mindfulness into a habit, you need to practice.

So, next time when you get angry, I want you to get out of the place and probably go for a walk. Simply walk by all yourself.

Or, do some exercises. Like weightlifting or cardio. Such activities actually help you to release your energy in some way out of the body. It will make you feel exhausted but calm.

So, mindfulness is not just staying in present but it is about how we respond to the situation. So, to build your life, use energy in a more constructive and positive way.

Speaking of which, what are your ways or activities to use this energy?

@asilentobserver

I have found myself standing face to face with anger a lot lately. At first, I wasn't giving it the attention that it needed and before I knew it I didn't just feel angry, anger became me. It affected every aspect of my life and I felt completely joyless. I couldn't focus at work and I was angry at home. I couldn't even answer phone calls and I wasn't sleeping well.

Like you said, it is so important to process our emotions and know what we are focusing on. Once I realized where I was at, I had to first forgive myself for letting myself get to that point and then I had to work on processing and refocusing. I had to ask myself to be honest about why I was feeling angry, then I needed to remind myself that I could handle the situations that were arising and the feelings that came with them. I practiced A LOT of mindful breathing, and then I started moving forward with deliberate positive thinking and gratitude. I had to make myself focus on positive thoughts and gratitude in the beginning, but then it started to feel natural and the happy thoughts came to me on their own.

Honestly, it would have been easier if I had practiced mindfulness from the beginning so that I could recognize where I was at and save my brain from a lot of stress. But I made my way back and hope that my recent lessons in anger and frustration will help me to be a bit stronger and more mindful in the future. Thanks so much for this post, it was great timing! It's really helpful to be able to write all of this down and share it. Saying it out loud here will help me as I continue to practice mindfulness. Many thanks heart

@ASilentObserver Preach it baby obscheekyI do not really like the feeling of being angry. It messes with my body and my "healthy space" in my head. I at times depending on the situation feel sick.

I love to just go for a walk. I do not pay attention to which way I walk I just walk. I am consitrating on things around me mostly. This does lower my react to wanting to get mad. If I can not go for a walk, I will tap on my leg fast, then I focus on a beat. I do that till I notice my beat is slowing down.

Love itheart

Rumple, I agree! Going for a walk is so helpful sometimes. Just the other day, I was feeling the grumps and trying to reframe my thoughts but I just wasn't feeling it. So I went for a walk around the lake by my house and it was great! The sun was setting and the sky was beautiful. I saw baby ducklings swimming with their mama, a little girl who was learning to pump her legs on the swing and swing by herself (she was so proud!), and an elderly man chasing squirrels for fun and having the best time, lol! The whole experience of the walk was amazing and by the time I got home, I couldn't stop smiling. :)

This is an excellent article, and I am trying to incorporate more mindfulness practices in my life because my mother has recently been diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment or the beginnings of what appears to be dementia. I have experienced a range of emotions: sadness, anger, frustration, worry, anxiousness, and grief and loss. I am seeing a therapist that is forcing me to include mindfulness practices in my day as a way to ease my anxiety and frustration. I need to revisit mindfulness practices and be open-minded because I think it is exactly what I need at this moment in time.

Hi Cranberry,

I hear you, facing the reality of having a loved one with memory loss or dementia can be incredibly difficult- the emotions that you're feeling are completely understandable. You and your mom are truly in my heart. I'm wishing you strength to handle those strong emotions when they come your way. I hope that you have support close by but I hope that you'll also touch base here if there is any way that our community can support you.

At the school that I teach at, when someone is absent or feels sad or angry we put them in our heart, we fill our hearts and minds full of love and kind thoughts for that person, and we wish them well with everything that we have. I wish you well, Cranberry. heart

@ASilentObserver I talk it out with a friend or two, or a stranger, or the person at the checkout counter, or an intercambio english language partner or whoever is nearby. Talking helps diffuse the thoughts, change and listen to other opinions and viewpoints! If no one is around/available, then I move my body/get physical in some way.
