Mindfulness Checkin Sept. 20
Mindfulness is more than just awareness at this moment. Mindfulness is not just about paying attention.
But also, how you pay attention. That makes you mindful.
When you are frustrated
when you are stressed
when your mind is wandering.
Then instead of getting overwhelmed, when you pay compassionate and kind attention to what makes your mind frustrated. That helps you to know the cause.
It helps you to develop compassionate awareness.
Instead of getting angry and impatient, if you inquire gently what made you stressed.
It helps you to cultivate kindness towards yourself. As well as you become curious to explore your own life and happenings. You able to start practicing attention with care and compassion.
Understand that mindfulness and compassion are interlinked. They have a connection. And having a compassionate mindfulness transform your life for the better.
So basically, when you practice mindfulness with care and compassion, it helps you to develop empathy for oneself as well as others. It cultivates a growth mindset and positive attitude.
The more you practice mindfulness, the more you begin to understand yourself and others. It develops interconnectedness and a clear thought process.
Mindfulness is more than what we know. It is full of exploration and discovering new aspects and perspectives.
But for today, let's focus on this question--

@ASilentObserver Hiii! I definitely could be more compassionate towards myself. Ironically, I do my best to focus on the best in others, but I tend to focus on the worst in myself. At the end of the day, it helps to remember that I am human, and I can only do my best. Flaws are natural to have.
@lovelyWhisper66 im the same whisper! I always find the best in others and the worst in myself....i just need to break out of that cycle
@ASilentObserver
oh this is making me think mindfully on an answer
@ASilentObserver great idea.
Are you compassionate to yourself? If yes, how do you practice it? I guess one way is to go easy on myself. When my body hurts I shift back into low gear and trim my activities.
So compassion for me is a recognition of others challenges. See this my own challenges seem smaller and I focus on them. The more I want others to be happy and joyful, the more joy I find in my own life.
I know how simple Mindfulness is supposed to be. My challenge is I am not able to engage my 5 senses in action. No taste, no smell, I can feel and I can see and hear. Yet I still get stuck and feel no results. I am unable to focus on the small here and now stuff. You said I could be mindful just drinking a glass of water. It's just not happening.
I have really been trying and I am frustrated. This feels like a Diversion tactic, and I just can't grasp the benefits. Sorry I am not connecting
@scarletPear1945
Hi there Pear again always wonderful to see you here
I'd like to kindly correct your belief on "mindfulness is simple" for many it is very hard thing to grasp. I have learned through researching and practicing things myself it has a lot to do with connecting with the "inner self" as it's very uncomfie and brings on much fear and anxieties.
When we start practicing mindfulness it is all together overwhelming-really it is
So I know and hear your concern on wanting all your senses to be there and be aware mindfully of them. hugz
So I do hear you are really trying and tried the water mindfulness. Good job for trying-YAY! When people try mindfulness they look for instant results. It's not going to result like we want it to be. As were we ever really mindful of drinking a simple glass of water? It does take time hun, and you deserve that time to really understand and feel comfy doing mindfulness.
aaww hun it does sound like your frustrated. Mindfulness shouldn't have us feeling this way. But more so calm and free and other things. Please can you share with me on some things you like doing daily? I will then help you start to practice mindfulness and not get frustrated. hugs to you
@RumpleSteeleSkin
Yes, this is all so new to me. I had never heard of mindfulness till the 7cups Therapist tried to teach it to me. It did not go well. I think I am expecting a mountain to move or some great revelation to pop in my head.like the water in a glass being mindful would look like this I think.
What is the water in? is it hard or soft? Is it clear or cloudy? is it hot or cold? is it bitter or sweet? will you drink it fast or slow?
This is what I feel I am supposed to be able to answer. I struggle. Thanks for being patient and understanding. Things I do for enjoyment is come here nothing else. but go to church. I sing in a Gospel group but have not been going
@scarletPear1945 I hear you and accept whatever limitations you find today. If you can do nothing more than breathe then start there. It is not how much we can be aware of but that we are exercising our "muscles" of redirecting our attention. It might only work for 1 second. That is okay. We are not trying to do anything we are just being in this moment. Maybe the thoughts are there. Label them "thoughts". whenever I feel frustrated I take a deep breath and let it out. There are no grades in mindfulness. Whatever effort we do gives us a greater ability to refocus our attention.
Mindfulness is not a 100 yard dash, it is long distance running. It does not matter how long it takes, keep on keeping on.
@soulsings
Thanks
@scarletPear1945 you are welcome ((hugs))
Grounding and Mindfulness and disassociation are all new terminology for me. Been going to Google and reading up on this stuff. I am however very Thankful and show Gratitude for everything.
@scarletPear1945 feel free to post your questions here if you care to.
Grounding = being aware of your surroundings
@soulsings
I don't really understand the grounding process and what that is supposed to do or how I am supposed to feel. All new terminology to me. I have bought some books to start reading about mindfulness and some of the other terms I see.
@scarletPear1945 well I think of grounding as being connected to the earth. My connection to the earth is the senses so when I am losing my sense of calm I try to connect to how my breathing feels and what I hear, smell, taste or touch. Then my awareness is focused on my environment and not getting pulled off into the thoughts and feeling domain. Hope that helps a little.
@soulsings
Wow, I was way off base with that. I am not trying to be funny but I thought it was a way to keep you attached to the earth by not allowing your spirit to drift off.
No, Im not
