Hello Mindfulness community! How is everyone doing?

In todays check-in, I would like you to do a short musical stimuli exercise.

Please watch this video https://youtu.be/Um3pZtnK4n4 listen to the music playing in the background and pay attention to how it makes you feel.

i) What emotions stir?

ii) What memories come up and how do these memories make you feel?

Using Mindfulness to Deal With Negative Emotions

As we know, mindfulness encompasses two main ideas:

Being deliberately aware of your thoughts and your feelings.

Having an open attitude toward your thoughts and your feelings without judging.

One of the exercises in mindfulness is focusing on your emotions. Heres an acronym that you may find helpful during the exercise:

R-Recognition

A- Acceptance

I - Investigation

N- Non-identification

Recognition: Recognition involves recognizing and labeling your emotions. Labeling alone can make you feel more in control of your thoughts and actions. Instead of allowing emotions to take over your body, you could say:

This is anger.

This is how fear feels.

Acceptance: Once you have recognized the emotion or emotions you are experiencing, show acceptance. Tell yourself that what you are feeling is okay. Dont criticize yourself, dont blame yourself and dont judge yourself for it.

Example: I hate feeling anxious, nervous, angry or sad.

Investigation: Once you have an understanding of the name of your emotion and you have accepted it, pay attention to how the emotion makes your body feel.

Example: If you are scared, you might notice increased heart beat.

Non-identification: In this phase, refrain from identifying yourself with the emotions. The emotion doesnt define who you are. You may be experiencing anger but that doesnt mean you are an angry person.

Example: Replace I am angry with I have anger

Please reply to this post after you have completed the exercise. Looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great day!

I will do the exercise tomorrow but just wanted to say that i particularly like the part i have anger instead of i am angry. The last one means that anger is an internal part of us whilst seeing it as i have anger, means more, that i carry something which i can leave behind, i do not have to keep it, it is not part of my personality.

Hiya Tazzieheart Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful check-in with us.

I so love this:

R-Recognition

A- Acceptance

I - Investigation

N- Non-identification

RAIN so envelopes what mindfulness is! As I type this up I am listening to your song. It has me feeling hopeful, encouraged, just thinking on things in a good way. The memories that come up are fun ones-ones where I am helping my clients who have past away get through their battle of illness. And me really working on something very hard and then crying as I have achieved my goal.

Thank you so much for thissmileyheart
