@DanaMH Hi Dana!
How are you doing today? I hope you had a wonderful weekend!
This is a wonderful post, and thank you for sharing this with us all. I certainly do try to practice these exercises in order to be more mindful and positive, especially in regards to my emotions. It is not always easy, but it is always worth the effort.
@SaimaK
I am doing good, just had a mindful weekend canning peaches. I agree sometimes our emotions are not easy and sometimes we need to cry to show others we are hurting inside but those tears are better than holding them in.
@DanaMH That sounds lovely, Dana!
Also, I completely agree. It is never good to bottle things in.
TRIGGERS OF LIFE......Vs........MINDFULNESS
I keep trying to practice these steps. When I stop to evaluate where what and why it comes up daily life issues.
Stuff that daily living triggers from past experiences that send me spiraling backward in a tailspin.
I grasp for anything that I can catch hold of to ground my self. I don't like the tailwind and the lack of ability to control myself.
I get very afraid that one day I might not find a toll hold to grab on to and I would be lost forever.
@scarletPear1945 I am sorry you are finding so many volatile emotions. I know there is no cure all but I think the worry about not finding something to grab onto is an anxiety not a real threat we face. Let me list the things we can count on hopefully.
When anger arises I see it and realize what is happening and sometimes I am quick enough to keep it at bay so it does not take over.
I can always take a deep breath and let it out.
If things get really bad I take a nap and feel better or I go to sleep early.
If I have not eaten in a few hours I have a healthy meal or snack and I feel a little better.
What coping mechanisms work for you?
@soulsings
I go to sleep if I can, I get real busy
@DanaMH hi this is a really important thing to learn to cope with: anger. Thanks for bringing this up.
Another word I would use to explain acceptance is recognition without judgment. The first thing I need to do is recognize that anger is starting to rear its head and after I recognize it I do not judge it but stay calm and say to myself.
"HOLD ON". We do not want to express anger. What can I do instead of getting angry?
Impermanence: this whole situation will change and go away so it is not worth reacting and getting all worked up.
What triggered me? When has this happened before. What happened then. What set me off. How can I avoid that.
Let go of controlling emotions. Okay no matter what happens I do not have to express anger. I can wait and try a different type of response. What can I say that will help this person feel better about themselves?
@soulsings
I like how you recognize that anger is starting to rear its head and then try to stay calm and say stuff to yourself. Trying to do something instead of getting angry is a really good idea.
Impermanence: this whole situation will change and go away so it is not worth reacting and getting all worked up. - this is really hard sometimes for all of us especially when others aren't thinking about the words coming out of their mouth to us. Yes, we do hope things will change.
What triggered me? When has this happened before. What happened then. What set me off. How can I avoid that. - Those are all good questions to ask about the situation.
Letting go of controlling emotions and not expressing your anger. Waiting and trying a different type of response or approach even if you need to wait minutes, hours, days. What can I say that will help this person feel better about themselves - is also a great idea.
@DanaMH thanks for your understanding and appreciation. This is a story of how coping with anger can be.
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost... I am helpless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in the same place.
But, it isn't my fault.
It still takes me a long time to get out.
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in. It's a habit.
My eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault. I get out immediately.
walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.
I walk down another street.

@soulsings
Totally understand that and that is how my day has been so far today so I really "Get It".
@DanaMH walking down another street for me is not reacting to anger but riding the urge to rage and just go until the wave breaks. Not easy.
@soulsings
I just walked out of a building today and avoided everyone. Ignoring my phone calls and emails also. Just doing "Me Time" today as mindfulness.
@DanaMH I usually scheduled breaks like that during the day for 15 or 20 minutes.
@soulsings
Lovely poem and wise words
@amiablePeace77 thanks I just added "Author Unknown".
@DanaMH
Dana, thanks for this important post. I try to "go inside" during the day, meaning stop, listen to what the body has to say and maybe take a break of a few minutes when i feel i get irritated - prevention.
@amiablePeace77
I like your "go inside" part and think about what is really happening and what folks are saying. Also, checking the facts helps also.
@DanaMH
true Dana.
