Mindfulness Daily Check-In February 12, 2018

Sleep is something I do not really understand. It happens when I am in a state of deep relaxation. I can even be aware that I am near the threshold of sleep. And then I drop from that state of being aware I am near sleep into a place that I am not really aware of much until I pop back up and realize I have been asleep.

What is a mystery to me is how I feel so much better often when I take a nap. It is almost like I plug into an electric charging station and get a recharge. And when I am awake I am more mindful of my environment.

How does sleep help you live closer to being aware of this moment?

@DanaMH I think each person needs to find a balance where they get enough sleep. That is something each person needs to discover on their own.

@soulsings

Moooooorning Soulssmiley I was gonna respond last night while I was in bed trying to sleep. But I was lost for words-lol. I really try to stay on a bit of a schedule, but some how it never happens unless I "blow my top" with the family and animals and others not being considerate. lol

ssshhhh Im not to bad lol. As my day starts at 4:20 am daily to get kids up for school and catch their bus on time. So sleep is a good theing to kinda get on a routine. smileyheart

@soulsings

when i had enough good sleep i can focus, i can bring my attention to what i am doing in the present moment. when tired, the mind drifts off too much and it is harder to bring it back to the now. short naps (not long ones) help to recover, i started again doing them but shortened the naps to 20 or 30 minutes so that i will still be tired at night time (but this is very individual).

@amiablePeace77 yes that is probably the first thing I lose is the ability to focus.

I am definitely not very aware and present if I don't get a good night's sleep. I've also learned that I am at my best in the mornings. The longer the day goes on the harder it is for me to stay as mindful.

@wingedtrish also, I really hate naps. I have never found a way to make them work for me. I'd be curious to know how other people make naps work so well for them.

It's strange, sleep can help me feel physically rested, but many times it can drain me emotionally. I have pretty emotionally intense dreams, usually not scary, but anxious, sad, trapped dreams. I've noticed that they correspond very closely with how I feel about myself and my situation. Sometimes they can be helpful and show me some things I haven't noticed. It's not mystical, just many dreams of feeling trapped, then in a recent dream I finally excaped and I felt SO happy. A kind of happy that can only be so freely felt when sleeping. It's nice to have such crazy and informative dreams, but sometimes I'd just like diversion and not introspection. :/

@BlueMossWeaver27 yes not sure what roles dreams play but wouldn't it be cool to dream mindfully?

@soulsings

Hi Soul, I love sleep😂. People say I sleep like I'm older because of how much I love naps. It just repairs so much and helps us feel energized. It really helps me to see how tired I was before hand after I wake up feeling better. I probably nap too long, but I'm like a cat in that aspect😂🙈🐈

@Catlover1993 sometimes I see new perspectives after a nap. Some days more than others.

Sleep helps me so much. If for some reason I can't sleep the next day I have massive anxiety and my depression get's worst. I also have a higher chance of a panic attack.

Sleep to me helps me to just have a break from my own mind. To relax my body from stress and anxiety aswell.
