Mindfulness Daily Check-In February 25, 2018
Hello, Mindfulness Community
Have you heard of Mindful Immersion? Mindful immersion is a way to practice mindfulness and can allow us to have new experiences while doing familiar tasks! We often focus on getting to the next important thing in our lives, which causes us to miss some of the beauty in what we might consider the mundane or routine activities of life, like doing chores, maintaining hygiene, eating, checking the mail, or playing with a pet.
Mindful Immersion asks us to completely immerse ourselves in a chosen activity. How can we immerse ourselves? We can focus on our five senses: 1. What do we see? 2. What can we touch/feel? 3. What do we hear? 4. What do we taste? 5. What do we smell?
For example, if we are doing the dishes, we can focus on our senses: the temperature of the water; the texture and colors of the soap bubbles; the sounds of swishing water; the flexing of our arm muscles as we scrub a plate or glass; and the scent of the soap.
Rather than focusing on finishing the task, we are developing new experiences as we become more mindful of what all a task involves by engaging our senses. Mindful immersion can cultivate awareness in these activities, allowing us to slow down and not be so consumed by what we have planned.
Choose an activity and mindfully immerse yourself! Share your experience below if you feel comfortable!

Mindfulness has helped me focus on a task and not get distracted by other issues that happen during the day. I usually find that staying focused on the task with relaxing music in the background helps.
Kind of hard to do this when you warn the ER nurses in the lobby that you are going to pass out then I do pass out for 30 minutes and the person my me said I was out for 30 minutes and all the nurse did was cover me up with a blanket and asked if I was ok. Passed out of course I couldn't respond. He told her that they warned the other nurse and ENT medic that I was about to pass out prior to the 2nd time that I passed out that day.
I got a new yoga mat for my birthday, so I sat myself down wonderfully comfortable and did some mindful breathing. I felt very relaxed, so I decided to do a couple of the guided meditation sessions from 7Cups as well. All in all I did half an hour of guided meditation! I've never done so much before. I think it helped a great deal that the mat allowed me to sit comfortably. And the guided sessions keep me focussed. I feel very good right now, refreshed and even more awake, even though it's evening already
@EmunahHere - I sat mindfully today. I felt the surface I was sitting on beneath me. I ran my fingers over the texture. I noted its patternless color. In that passing moment, things felt ok.
@EmunahHere this is a great idea. At first I thought you were going to tell me to take a bath LOL.
I like immersing myself in the moment. It is a full experience to be aware of this moment. I am going to try this more often.
I have been listening to all the noises the washer machine makes washing the clothes. I guess I can do that with the dryer also.
trying to spend minutes focusing on a sitcom and understanding the plot.
@EmunahHere
Emunah thank you so much for this check in
I am just sitting here after doing a 14 hour overnight. Im listening to the turles filter going and hitting the tank water. I hear my tablet on netflix but not so tunes into that- its kinda like back ground noice. My ferrets are munching on their hard food. My daughters cat box needs cleaning as it stinks. I smell a bit of breakfast my kids done, waffles and syrup and sausage. Im noticing my tummy is grumbling but so enjoying my hot coffee. A bit sweet but not to much. Im noticing my body is a bit tired and thinking how it will feel laying out on my bed with my pillows and blanket. Room be dark and cold as I like it.
Wow this is good for me to do as I was on the go-go mode. Thank you for sharing this and to remind us to slow down and really notice what we are doing and what is around us.

@EmunahHere
Thanks for this post. Washing the dishes has always been a favourite chore of mine, and recently I have been mindful and it is great to be focused on the task and being minful. Keeps negative thoughts at bay while focusing on the running water, temperature, soap bubbles and so on. The other time I am mindful is when walking to work, trying to be more aware of my surrounding using all senses.
@knowledge57
HI Knowledge I too have taken a liking to washing the dishes. Not many times I wish for my dishwasher back-lol. I'm finding that time I can do my daily check in with myself and really see how I'm doing. Also get my hands to be soft
@EmunahHere
i immersed myself this morning in a new yoga type (new for me), felt how far my body wanted to go with ease and where to stop. i sunk into the stillness and relaxation when finishing and felt refreshed when starting my work.
@amiablePeace77 thanks for sharing about your experience with yoga. To me it takes me to a new way of seeing and feeling. It really helps me ground the energy.
