What is mindfulness? Mindfulness is the ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what were doing, and not reacting or being overwhelmed by whats going on around us. Mindfulness is something we all possess, but its more helpful to us when we practice on a daily basis so we develop the mindfulness habit.

When you bring attention to what youre experiencing in the senses, or become an observer of your thoughts and emotions, youre being mindful. And theres scientific studies showing the more you train your brain to be attentive, the more your brain is actually changing its neuro-connections to reinforce mindful awareness and to lessen the story lines that we are continually bombarded with.

What do you do to practice mindfulness on a regular basis?

What ideas have you considered trying to add to your practice?

What do you find the greatest benefit of mindfulness is to you right now?

Hia Souls thanks for this check in-smileyheart

What do you do to practice mindfulness on a regular basis?

Since I wake up so early 4:30-5am during the week I try not just to "jump into" my routine of getting ready in the morning. I sit on my bed, fan on and I use my tablet to find cool mindfulness visual exercises. Normally they are walks at a beach or watching a waterfall. When I do this it gives me a chance to check in and most of the time I can set the mood for my morning.

What ideas have you considered trying to add to your practice?

Maybe trying on a weekend with no visual aids. But to do it on my own

What do you find the greatest benefit of mindfulness is to you right now?

Peace, able to assess myself, I have the power to change my moods or at least figure something to help them, I feel better at being able to use mindfulness and not meds

heart

@RumpleSteeleSkin I think it is great you use aids to mindfulness. That can prime the well. And changing things up without aids works well too. Meds are a personal decision between people and their medical team. I think whatever keeps us stable and safe is a good thing. Mindfulness can be used by anyone.

@soulsings Hi soul!

What do you do to practice mindfulness on a regular basis? I use the Calm.com app everyday. I listen to two (almost everyday) meditations. I listen to the Daily Calm meditation (different every day(, and I listen to something else, LOTS to chose from! I've been doing this for over three months and I feel a nice change.

What ideas have you considered trying to add to your practice? I add different things depending on how my day is going. I do quite a bit of mindful bbreathing!

What do you find the greatest benefit of mindfulness is to you right now? I find that mindfulness has helped me have a calmer "baseline". I used to feel anxiety at a level 5-6 everyday regardless of what was going on. After doing daily mindful mediitations, I feel like my baseline is a 1-2. This is a lovely change!!

The greatest benefit of mindfulness to me right now is that it is and has helped me get over the past, leave it there, not bring it into my future too much, and stop obsessing over it. Although I still want to talk about it and the hurt I have from it, being mindful reminds me not to dwell there, or return there. It also reminds me that if/when I do return to the past/long for something different than something I already have right now, it's not living fully in the now. We can't change the past. We can change our present. Our minds. Our situation. Our attitude. Mindfulness is a gentle way to remind me that to be ok with what happened and who I am.

@onwardforevenmore I totally agree that we need to let go of the past although we can save the wisdom we learned. That is fabulous that you are finding ways to live this.

What do you do to practice mindfulness on a regular basis?

I practise yoga on a regular basis with a teacher. Throughout the day I try to take short breaks to listen to my body, if I'm hungry/thirsty/tired etc. If I feel any symptoms like a headache or muscle cramps. Anything that tells me that I maybe should have taken a break sooner. If so, I try to take the next break a little earlier to tend to my body's needs. When I can't sleep I often do breathing exercises and I have days scheduled in in which I want to do some self-care.

What ideas have you considered trying to add to your practice?

I really want to add meditation, but I'm having a hard time with it. Firstly, I'm not one for sitting still, so I try to do meditation sessions while moving (on my bike or just walking) instead. I do guided meditations if I can, but it's still very hard for me to stay focused for longer than five minutes.

What do you find the greatest benefit of mindfulness is to you right now?

My mental and emotional stability probably. The way being mindful about my body, which helps me to take better care of it, has me feel much better physically too though, so that's a close second.

@specialSea87 Tagging a curious friend too. I think this is the best description ever of mindfullness laugh

@JayTheBird14 yoga is a great place to practice attention to the body. Moving is a natural thing to deal with stress. Something to try is meditation when lying down. The worst thing that happens is dozing off. No worry. Just another option.

@JayTheBird14 Wow what an awesome description, i think i get it even more now. And its so good that a lot fo people wrote what they do to actually practice mindfulness. I think its great and its really helped me with my problems recently, its still a tough concept for me to grasp but i think its more of a hands on learning then theoretical. Like i need to ry practising it with different methods instead of just reading. But seriously thank you for introducing me to this concept <3
