Mindfulness Daily Check-In March 12, 2018
Hi there. It is not always ideas that ease our suffering. Sometimes it is providing inspired distraction that can help us not focus on our suffering and relax for a little while.
For me a shower or doing some light yoga can help me unwind. Sometimes I just want some soothing videos and uplifting videos. I added some of these to the mindfulness library https://www.7cups.com/forum/MindfulnessSupportCommunity_106/ResourceLibrary_1062/RelaxingMusicandVideosformindfulness_121002/ Some people tell me they really help them to relax.
So how do you find ways to relax before going to sleep or when the stress levels build up?

Before bed I have a routine (that I stick to about 85% of the time). I turn off the TV and phone, stretch and/or meditate, and write in my journal. I take my dog out for a last walk, and I usually repeat to myself, "I let go of my day." Even if it's been a low-stress day, this seems to trigger a deep sense of letting go. That I did my best and now it's just time to let go. Back home, I brush my dog and talk to him about our day (yes this is corny), and then I'll either do a little Sudoku or read a book until I'm drowsy. This all usually takes an hour or an hour and a half, depending on how slow I'm moving.
A few months ago, I stopped using a light bulb in my bedroom. It was an accident at first -I was too lazy to get a lightbulb!- but then I noticed how quickly I fell asleep when I couldn't do anything in my bedroom at night but sleep.
When stress is building up at work, I take a break and go sit in a spot that has a nice river few. I'll meditate sometimes, or just look at the river.
