Mindfulness Daily Check In March 14,2018
Hi awesome community
Today I'd like us to focus on S.N.A.C.K Oh how we love our snacks right!

Oh those all look so yummy and a bit of this and that depending on my mood to-right
But thats not the "snack" I'd like to focus on now

I love snacks!! Theyre tasty, nourishing, and they dont require time and energy that I might not otherwise have. Sometimes, though, I am tempted to reach for food when what I really need is a moment of calm awareness so I can make a thoughtful plan about what to do next. What I need is a mindfulness S.N.A.C.K.
Stop: Just stop whatever youre doing. I have stopped mid-step, mid-bite, and even mid-yell (usually at my kids, who are generally so surprised when it happens that we all crack up at how ridiculous I can be). Stopping in general requires us to start again, and taking just a minute or two for a quick S.N.A.C.K. can help us reboot in a skillful and helpful way.
Notice The next step is to notice what is happening within and around us. What do you see or hear? Do you feel any sensations in your body? And perhaps most importantly, can you notice the thoughts in your mind? Try not to get wrapped up in them.Just see if you can notice them and nothing else. There is no right or wrong here. no need to judge or change anything. Just notice.
"We spend much of our time struggling against reality, mentally fighting against traffic, unpleasant colleagues, or tantruming children. The end result is that we use up our limited time and energy wishing things were different or better or less annoying"
Accept: This is a tricky one, because most folks think acceptance means they cant try to change unfortunate or unpleasant circumstances in their lives. Its actually just the opposite. We spend much of our time struggling against reality, mentally fighting against traffic, unpleasant colleagues, or tantruming children. The end result is that we use up our limited time and energy wishing things were different or better or less annoying. However, accepting that you have just spilled a gallon of milk all over the floor or sent off the wrong spreadsheet to the entire finance department (rather than spending precious time cursing the milk or berating yourself) is a crucial step towards fixing the problem.
Curious: Curiosity is an under-appreciated skill, often thought of as relevant only to scientists, small children, and mischievous monkeys. However the ability to get interested in our own situationzand can help us manage difficult emotions and gain some clarity on what is going on. You dont have to undertake a serious investigation requiring an hour of therapy a few simple questions should suffice. What am I feeling? What am I thinking? What do I need right now? If this feels too hard or overwhelming, start with something more basic: What do I see? What can I hear? Grounding yourself in this way will help you figure out what to do next.
Kindness: This is so crucial that we should really start and end each snack with kindness. The reality is that sometimes what we notice is unpleasant, boring, and even painful. Sometimes we face problems that just arent fixable, no matter how curious or thoughtful we may be. And sometimes we only remember to stop and notice after the fact, only after weve left our backpack on the bus or sent an unnecessarily angry text to our spouse. Either way, the ability to respond to ourselves and others with kindness will not only make our lives easier and more pleasant, but it will help us get back on track more quickly than we might have otherwise.
So the next time youre feeling stressed out, overwhelmed, confused, or unsure, take a quick moment to have a S.N.A.C.K. But instead of reaching for the brownies or chips, try a mindfulness snack: Stop, Notice, Accept, and be Curious and Kind in response to whatever you find. It doesnt take long, but it can go a long way towards making your day feel easier, less stressful, and more enjoyable.

@DanaMH
Hiya Dana good you are here
It is good to be mindful on our "junk food" in take. But what about how much we are putting positivness in ourselves? What about a handful of Kindness? And stop and smell the roses and then continue whatever you were doing? All these fill you up just as a handful of chips
@RumpleSteeleSkin
I do that everyday but nothing is working so I need to figure out something that does work.
@DanaMH
Dana then I hope that you find things to help you soon
@RumpleSteeleSkin
what are some of those things I can try?
@DanaMH
HIya Dana can you be more clearer on the things you need some help with where mindfulness can help you?
@RumpleSteeleSkin
Not self harming(edited by Rumple due to triggering words) is that clear enough?
@DanaMH
Dana I am sorry you are trying to deal with this strong urge-I am. I can offer you some creative mindfulness things to maybe keep distracted. Some funny youtube videos on animals helps moods. Also writing in a book on thoughts also relieves things inside of you. Many things help with this kind of urges. Also seeking a therapist to share and also here to share and be heard helps alot. I am here to support you in ways I hope help you
@RumpleSteeleSkin Hello! :) This was an amazing post, and it really is a great reminder! However, I have to admit that it made me quite hungry at the same time! Lol.
@SaimaK
lol Saima yes those snacks look wonderful don't they
I new if I wrote we are talking on snacks and mindfulness you all would so so love it. But it's the other s.n.a.c.k.s that feed us innards that help us more so in the day and near future.
@RumpleSteeleSkin They certainly do! And you are so right! This was such a clever post, and I loved how you organized it and explained S.N.A.C.K.S. :)
Very good tip, and the opportunity to enjoy a healthy snack.
this post made me very excited!! give me all the cookiesss and muffins rumple
anyway this was really nice to read, next time I feel stressed I'll reach out for a mindfulness snack ;)
@RumpleSteeleSkin
Thanks for the healthy snacks. This is something which really helps, creating awareness and accepting what we can change and what not and being ok with it.
@RumpleSteeleSkin
I like this one... it makes sense.
I acknowledge my desire for comfy blankies and curling up in the bed right now and it sounds AWESOME! :::yawn::: However, I stopped to take a 7cups break and now I need to start over and finish a project (or 9) by end of day.
@diplomaticconfucious
HI Diplomatic nice to see you
Good to know it makes sense-I done my job then today
haha yes that desire to get all tucked in and warm under a soft big blankie is my desire too-ssshhhhh. All those projects wow-please 1 at a time and be in the moment. Also show kindness and take a break when you need to!
S.n.a.c.k.s also we enjoy and it feeds many parts about us. Helps us think better, be more observant, shows us to be more kind and accepting to ourselves. So are you ready for an extra serving on snacks now
