Mindfulness Daily Check-In Monday, July 23
Hello everyone! Welcome to the Mindfulness Check-in. I hope you're doing well.
Today we are going to chat about Taking Hold of Your Mind: How Skills. Non-judgmentally, One-Mindfully and Effectively.
Non-judgmentally
- See, but dont evaluate as good or bad. Just the facts.
- Accept each moment like a blanket spread out on the lawn, accepting both the rain and the sun and each leaf that falls upon it.
- Acknowledge the difference between the helpful and the harmful, the safe and the dangerous, but dont judge them.
- Acknowledge your values, your wishes, your emotional reactions, but dont judge them.
- When you find yourself judging, dont judge your judging.
One-Mindfully
- Bring yourself to now. Be completely present to this one moment.
- Do one thing at a time. Notice the desire to be half-present, to be somewhere else, to go somewhere else in your mind, to do something else, to multitask—and then come back to one thing at a time.
- When you are eating, eat.
- When you are walking, walk.
- When you are worrying, worry.
- When you are planning, plan.
- When you are remembering, remember.
- Let go of distractions. If other actions, or other thoughts, or strong feelings distract you, go back to what you are doing—again, and again, and again.
- Concentrate your mind. If you find you are doing two things at once, stop—go back to one thing at a time (the opposite of multitasking!).
Effectively
- Be mindful of your goals in the situation and do what is necessary to achieve them.
- Focus on what works. (Dont let emotion mind get in the way of being effective.)
- Act as skillfully as you can. Do what is needed for the situation you are in—not the situation you wish you were in; not the one that is fair; not the one that is more comfortable.
- Let go of willfulness and sitting on your hands.

Excellent article. We are so used to multi-task and think of it as efficient but did not realise it can be a distraction.
Great reminder on doing one task at a time and accepting things both good and bad.
@DanaMH Hi Dana!
How are you doing today? I hope you are having a lovely Monday so far!
This is an absolutely wonderful post! I love how informative it is, so thank you so much for sharing it with us all!
Please let us know how you are using: Taking Hold of Your Mind: How Skills. Non-judgmentally, One-Mindfully and Effectively.
I try to accept events that occur out of my control non-judgmentally in order to find ways to just work around them and adapt as I go. I try to eat mindfully and take in different aspects of nature one-mindfully. Lastly, I try to recognize and accomplish my goals for each day, week, and overall as effectively as possible by understanding what I need to do to achieve them and solely focusing on that.
@SaimaK
I am doing good and saw a movie yesterday with the family which was fun.
Accepting events that occur out of our control is really great and non-judgmentally. I also like the different aspects of nature and do this one-mindfully. I really like the spring time when things are starting to grow and then in the fall when the leaves are so pretty changing to different colors. Lastly, Havinig goals is so awesome, I have a check list that I use and it feels so good to check those off when they are done.
@DanaMH I am so glad to hear that!
I also love winter in addition to spring and fall! Also, I find it feels great to cross things off a checklist as well!
Thank you, Dana!

@DanaMH this is a very intriguing checkin thanks for posting it.
I like this part "- When you are eating, eat.
- When you are walking, walk."
I think that sums up my practice to be tuned into what is happening in the senses and not get absorbed in thought or emotion. They are there but they are not the controlling factor as long as I practice redirecting my attention.
@DanaMH
HIDana WOW what a great forum post this is
Like wow lol
I find myself sometimes when I am overwhelmed or very busy I am like a robot and my mind is just following. To actually tell your mind "to be in" walking, working, eating and so on really is a hard skill. No joke.
I find myself lately doing this mindfulness exercise as my mind wanna fly to California
@DanaMH
Dana, this post is such a wonderful reminder to me. When you eat, eat - do what you do but be present with it. See the facts of a situation, do not attach anything, don't bring in prejudgement etc. You are so right, thank you for reminding us at the beginning of the week!
