Hello Mindfulness Community heart

Hope everything is going well. Today's check in will be on Mindful Eating! This is a technique that can help you gain control over your eating habits, and it aims to help us reconnect more deeply with the experience of eating and enjoying our food.

Some ways of practising mindful eating are to eat slowly, and to savour not only the food but the silence. It isn't necessary to eat in complete silence, but perhaps try and spend one meal a week in relative silence. Alternatively if you are too busy to try that out, you could enjoy a cup of tea or something else in silence! Pay attention to the flavours and consider the different textures and details.

By doing some of the things listed above, you will find that you appreciate and enjoy the food you eat everyday even more! And it's super easy. So please let me know what you think below - if you tried it, tell us about your experience! Maybe describe something you ate recently and some of the things you noticed.

Thank you and have a lovely weekend! smiley

@peppermintlove

Peppermint thank you so much for this great check-insmiley

haha as I am playing catch up I am eating Burger King and trying to get things done here AND thinking of moving my couch out and getting the house moved before back to work. So I am NOT being mindfulsad But not gonna be hard on myself. I can be mindful as I eat at least. Again thank you for this sharing for me to slow a bitheart

i think growing up i bolted down my food so i could get seconds before my brothers or sister did...

@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn

Hiya Krink good to see you in check in. Yes I think many of us scarf down food. Not noticing "what" we ate. Was it hot or cold? What seasonings can you taste? Or even aware of that first feeling of getting full. We all work on it step by step and keep enjoying our foodzsmiley

@peppermintlove thanks for this reminder about mindful eating. It is so joyful to smell the food, to feel the food in my mouth, to touch it with my tongue, to sense the warmth or coolness of the food, to sense its texture as I chew it, to taste the subtle flavors, to chew until it is small pieces, then to feel it go down the gullet into the stomach. Then sensing the aftertastes and returning to my breath to return again to a state of rest and contentment.
