Mindfulness Daily Check-In October 19, 2018
HAPPY FRIDAY COMMUNITY
What is a worry script?
A worry script is like a journal entry, where you write about your worry, and what you are afraid will happen.
Writing a daily worry script will help you to experience the negative emotions associated with your fears and worries, rather than avoid them. Although this will feel uncomfortable at first, research shows us that when you face your fears in this way, your anxiety and worries will go down over time.
• Your worry script should be about the worst-case scenario for one of your worries.
• Your script should be vivid and visual. That is, it should include the five senses as much as possible (touch, taste, sight, smell, hearing), as well as your feelings and reactions
Remember that this exercise is designed to help you get over your worries and anxiety in the long-term. When it comes to anxiety, in order to get a long-term gain you will always experience some short-term pain.
• Write a new worry script every day. It should be about the same subject, for example a loved one being in a car accident, but you can go deeper into your feelings and reactions each time. For example, in one script you might write about how the loss of a loved one would affect your family, or you might write about your fears for the future after the loss of a loved one.
• Expect to write about the same worry topic for 30 minutes every day for two weeks.
Just writing about something bad will not make it happen! Otherwise we could just write about having millions of dollars and would be rich soon.
If you write out your worry script every day for two weeks, you will find that you spend less time and energy worrying about fears. However, this does not mean that you dont care about them. It simply means that you dont spend hours worrying about it every day.
Would be nice to hear what you people think about this.

@amiablePeace77 this is a great way to vent and give voice to the thoughts without acting on them.
Another kind of journal you have two sides, the anxiety thought and the reality thought so you have some kind of balance and you do not get hung up on changing the thought but reinterpreting it.
@soulsings
thanks for checking in. I find too that reinterpretation of a thought is more helpful. Happy weekend
@soulsings
Hey Souls I really do like this thought. How ever when I did this writing and long ago I had many notebooks labeled for certain things. At that time I was so unbalanced it was recommended this way. For 60 days I was to fill those note books up, never bring those things into therapy. It was to teach me to be ok with certain feelings/thoughts without no one to talk with at that immediate time. I was teaching myself it was ok to sit being uncomfie over a thought or feeling WITHOUT needing someone there to listen or for comfort. Yes this might sound extreme to some. But dealing with BPD back then it was discipline mostly and learning not to react as well.
@RumpleSteeleSkin
Rumple, I find it amazing that you learned to just be okay with not feeling okay at a particular moment. This is maybe the best way to overcome any "tough" times, knowing they come, knowing they go and also use all tools we have to "sit them out".
@amiablePeace77
I still have not aced this totally, but I am at times better at my reactions-
mindfulness really does help this process out
@RumpleSteeleSkin
i think more practise will help me too, practising to be mindful
@amiablePeace77
Me too Peace
@amiablePeace77
I didn't think about keeping a worry journal because I didn't like the thought about focusing on negatives, but I will try this. It's good to get things off one's chest instead of ruminating. The other plus is it's cheaper than therapy! I will try this along with Soul's excellent idea of putting thing in perspective. Thank you!
i mentioned something that had been troubling me to my eye doctor, i didn't feel i could tell anyone, and it just came out. after a little while, he told me something that he had on his mind, that he felt he couldn't talk about either. we bonded.
@GustyOne4U
oh wow Gusty really that is awesome
