Mindfulness Daily Check-In October 28, 2017
Good morning everyone :)
I wanted to talk about the morning today. I found this great article with some mindful things people do at the start of their morning. It included listening to music, practising meditation, enjoying a hot drink outside, doing yoga and more. A really good way to start your day stress free is to take some deep breaths, maybe say a prayer of gratitude, avoid forms of technology first thing and to just take your time to welcome the new day. Lots of people often wake up in the morning feeling tired and grumpy, awoken by a loud startling alarm. Change your alarm tone to something more soothing, or better yet to wake up naturally! Having a good morning starts with having a good night's sleep the night before.
How do you start your mornings? And how do you feel when you wake up? This might change depending on different days, but please share some thoughts about this topic below <3

Mornings are not good for me. Probably because I often have trouble sleeping. So I feel tired, don't want to get up and lay in bed too long then have to rush around to get out the day on time (barely) and drive like a maniac to get to work before the 10 minute grace period ends and I'm considered late.
So my whole morning is just a mad rush and very stressful and I start off the day badly. I am working to change that by focusing on getting better sleep. Been using relaxing music to listen to at night, seems to be helping. Now I need to get up earlier so I can take a moment to just relax and breathe before heading off to work. It really does make a difference in how your whole day goes.

I'm really sorry to hear that your mornings aren't going well. That does make sense if you are having trouble sleeping - also it sounds like your mornings are extremely stressful with the rush :(
It's good to hear that you are working on that, and I do hope you find some more things that work for you! Sounds like a very good idea, waking up a bit earlier to have a more relaxing start to your morning.
Thank you very much for checking in, and I hope your mornings improve
Thanks!
I practice mindfulness in the morning quite a bit. If I set an alarm it is a vibrating alarm on my phone. Lately I haven't had to set my alarm because I am currently looking for a job and don't have any other commitments in the morning. When I first wake up I try to reflect on the dream I had the night before and what it meant. Usually my dreams are really strange but I know why I had them. Then, I put on netflix and lay in bed for a couple hours.
@Understandinggirl1990
Great to hear you practise mindfulness in the morning! The thing you said about dreams is really interesting - dream journaling in particular is a great way to remember dreams, especially if it's the first thing you do as soon as you wake up. Your mornings sound quite relaxed :)
Thanks for checking in today
I might count things I'm thankful for, but a prayer is not happening. Praying in predominantly theistic. It necessitates a "whom" to which you are praying. A convincing amount of reputable, reproducible, physical evidence for this personality would need to be demonstrated first before I would feel compelled to pray.
Mornings are difficult for me. It's hard to feel motivated to get out of bed, even if I've been sleeping in the same sheets for weeks. I suppose I should get that list of "things to get up for" written so I can post it beside my bed.
@Zeraphim
That's totally reasonable. Something you could do is take five minutes at the start of every morning to think about gratitude - perhaps think of things you are grateful for or what you want to achieve for the day.
A 'things to get up for' list sounds like a really good idea, I'm sure it would be motivational :)
Thank you for checking in!
I def have a morining mindfulness ritual/routine :D
I make coffee, wake up my fish and talk to them, drink said coffee while doing steps on 7 cups and listening to meditatipon music. Followed by, if time, morning check ins to ponder my day /week/intentions.
I ushually - unless on like, 3 hours of sleep, feel pretty good in the mornings. Mornings are " me " time, so I look forward to it.
This Is going to change due to this program I am starting that is a month long all the way in the city....so I will be having this " me" time/reflection time/ mindfulness time at night - or - getting up CRAZY EARLY in the morning.
It has yet to be decided - LOL.
@blissedNblessed
Your mindfulness morning routine sounds lovely :) I think it's really important to have 'me time' and it sounds like it makes you feel good.
Yes, please don't stop having your mindfulness time. And make sure your mornings are stress free by taking your time and taking in a few deep breaths, even if that means waking up a half hour earlier. I'm very glad to hear that you have a routine!
Thank you so much for checking in today!
@peppermintlove hello hello
I don't get along too well with the mornings, I use a wake up light which gradually brightens over an hour or so leading up to the time you want to be awake for, then on comes the alarm - seems to make the process more gentle. I still tend to wake up pretty unrested and uncomfortable but I've gotten into the routine of starting the morning rolling out of bed and immediately doing yoga, even if that's just 10 minutes. I've definitely noticed on days where I've skipped it that the whole day remained a bit sluggish, whereas when I start the day that way - as counterintuitive as it feels - I definitely feel a lot more energised once it's over! I've also found (bizarrely) that I've been sleeping a lot better and been waking up feeling more rested having moved all electronic devices a few meters away from where I sleep (they had been right by my bed)
no idea whether that's just coincidental but I guess it kind of would make sense feel like I've gone off track again haha oops
@AMusicalSilence
Hey there! Aw I'm sorry to hear that you don't get on well with mornings. I really hope that changes for you :)
Yoga sounds like a great idea!! I'm so glad that it works for you :D Ah yes the electronic devices thing is key to getting a goodnight's sleep, because we don't realise it but having them right next to us can really disturb and delay our sleep, as well as the quality of sleep we're getting.
Thank you so much for posting
@peppermintlove changing alarm tone is nice way.
I do snooze alarm and start doing yoga stretches before I get out of be and continue on a yoga mat. Yoga helps me connect my awareness with my body and to loosen up. That is part of how I start my day.
