Mindfulness Daily Check-In October 31, 2017

Happy Halloween to those that celebrate it today
I know some holidays "trigger" some of us and may be send us in a down laff. I am really sorry this happens to some of you. Sending comfort hugs
But.... can we be mindful even on Halloween? Matieee I believe we can![]()
True some face "triggers" on holidays due to whatever the reason. Sometimes they can't be helped, it just happens. That is ok. Give yourselves some love and know it will be ok. What I wanted us to focus on was....What are some things we can do to PREPARE us for holidays that just don't settle with us right? Can we maybe put a sign on our doors saying "please don't ring bell no candy? Can we find a movie or a cartoon that can help our moods? Is there some foods or warm drinks that comfort us? Is there music, or a book or even a hobby we enjoy? If there are some things that help do you want to share? And if you don't know please share this, we all can find something that might help you

Halloween is a reminder to us of the importance of rituals and celebration. The earliest communities developed ways to express their culture through storytelling, dance, art and expression of identity. When these rituals are practised, we feel a sense of belonging - being part of the tribe - and our identity is validated and our culture perpetuated.
In modern times, commercialisation has impacted these rituals with the emphasis less on cultural significance and more on generating economic stimulation. I find part of the challenge today is to decide which celbrations are meaningful for me as a person and as a member of a diverse community.
I tend to resonate with rituals that acknowledge deeds and ideology - celebrating the lives of those we hope to emulate - the trailblazers and thinkers who encourage compassion and tolerance.
In that spirit then, I wish all of you celebrating Halloween a safe and joyous experience and hope that you find meaning in your rituals.

Hi Calm good to see ya here in check in today!!
Oh wow thank you for sharing this! Yes I have learned that certain holidays are celebrating differently depending on cultural, beliefs and such. It is good to hear that you decide which holidays have meaning for you and ones that don't. I hope that today was a good one
we do not celebrate halloween here and neither in my homecountry but i remember other holidays. personally, i do not like to follow the different trends how to celebrate a certain holiday. i just feel it is not about the meaning of the particular day but more about making profits, too commercial. i would make a holiday a special day but more by remembering the meaning of the day (if i believe in it) and making it a special "comfort day" at home.
as a much younger person i preferred to spend holidays (like x-mas) sometimes alone instead with my mom, stepfather, sister who pretended being a family.
@amiablePeace77
Hello Peace nice to see you here today
aawww Peace the last part made me kinda sad. Hugs
if you want one. I too agree with you on making your own meaning for a holiday and not follow what everyone else is doing. Even if its to be comfy and eating good things and feeling at peace. I rather not celebrate halloween and its not a big holiday for me-but kids want candy. So I normally get candy but they are not allowed to trick or treat plus I work-blah lol. How would you like a holiday to be for you? What would it look like?
@RumpleSteeleSkin
Rumple those days are over, it is the past, done. i have better days now. i take the hug, looked for another one but could not find it. hmm, one should do for now. 😊
my interpretation of ideal holidays (like x-mas) would be that people come together and enjoy each others company in a more modest and natural way (without massive amounts of food and drinks). that people bring something homemade (without tons of fat or sugar), gifts would be "their time". when i was younger and asked what i wish for present i replied, take a walk with me, give me some time, it was confusing to those people. if you believe in the meaning of the holiday that should be of major importance that day. i prefer awareness days.
@amiablePeace77
Peace this is for when you need one more.......

Happy Halloween.
No triggers here...just enjoying the holiday :)
Nothing much to say...sorry.
Just don't feel I have anything to contribute today...but checking in anyways.
Thanks for the good check-in, Rumple :-)
You reminded me to start preparing for the (for me) stressful parts of the winter holidays. That way it's bound to be less problematic.
I wish a great day for everyone, however you spend it <3
@EmOnTheGo
Hiya Em great to see you in check-in today
Holidays really can be a drag for some or a set back. But thing is we can "prepare" ourselves as best we could. As you said, you are starting to prepare yourself for the real holidays. However that may look like, you are empowering yourself to maybe lesson the triggers or anxiety(Rumple gets bad anxiety during holidays)
