Hi everyone!

So this is a simple check-in today but I wondered if we can each share our experiences of how we encouraged mindfulness into our lives.

For myself, I found this when I became my daily yoga practice... it was something that I explored and grew to love! Over time, it encouraged me to learn more about mindfulness and I believe it can really change your inner world.

Great Check In,

I was actually thinking of that question last night fun fact. I know for me I encourage mindfulness in my own life by stopping for about 5-10 minutes each day and noticing the senses that I am feeling, Taking in the sounds. It could be things like my breathing, where I am walking so many different things. When I do this I realized that our world is a beautiful place and if we are not mindful we miss out on so much thats just personally what I think. I also encourage mindfulness in my own life by doing meditations sometimes.

Hey Lisa thanks for this check in! For me doing mindfulness is a choice. I do it-or I get rebellious and not do it. Then sit with how I feel cause I didn't take that time out.heart

This is a very honest self-observation. When you feel rebellious can you sit with how you are feeling and try to find out what the message is... it may help you remain calmer so you can get on with your mindfulness session!

Thanks for sharing this- I think I understand what you mean, the "sit with how I feel". The whole practice of mindfulness really is a journey, isn't it? It's a choice to be made everyday. I wonder why I find myself resisting sometimes. I think to myself that "I'm fine" or "I don't have time" or "I just want to do things my old stubborn way" and then later I find myself reflecting on what I wish I had done differently. Thankfully at some point, we take time to look back- I think it makes us stronger smiley

Lisa, I love yoga too, particularly Kundalini. I try to be as mindful as possible but sometimes my mind seems to want to do it's own thing (monkey mind) so that's why I stick to my meditation which usually helps - training the mind. Recently mindfulness made me observe something, which was always there, I always knew but never paid attention too.

Hi Lisa, usually in the morning I use vipassana meditation outside, lateron om meditation, sometimes jkz mindfulness meditation and occasionally a particular buddhist healing prayer. vipassana and om all the time, rest can change, so 3 per day (shorter ones 10-15 min. except jkz)

Lisa do you mean links?

What helps me most ,based on how I am structured ,is simply meditation to calm down the mind, giving myself a rest time, "no thinking" (if one could express it like that). My mind can be at times like a busy highway so just insight, peace meditation or also compassion meditation are great to me.

I've always sort of avoided meditation because my mind always feels to scattered or fast and I can't imagine being able to sit and focus. But the way you describe meditation as a technique for "training the mind" makes it seem less scary to me. I guess that I felt like I needed an "already trained" mind to be able to accomplish the discipline necessary for meditation. I'm going to look into it more- thank you for sharing.

The need for Mindfulness found me not too long ago, when life was feeling overwhelming and chaotic. When I was in the middle of all of the mess, it didn't occur to me that I could lift myself out of it and view my circumstances with a different perspective. I really felt like everything around me was at fault for how I was feeling. One day, I just felt so low that I couldn't take it anymore. I was screaming in my head, "Something has to change!!" I wondered about my feelings and where they were really coming from. Then I came to a point where I had to decide if I was willing to take responsibility for my feelings and if I was willing to do the work that it would take to turn things around.

Not long after I decided to make changes, I found 7 Cups and it has been a great encouragement to me. The Mindfulness Community has been especially helpful. Reading about other people's experiences and having a place to share my own experiences has meant a lot to me. I still have hard days, and that is okay. I have a better understanding of mindfulness now... It isn't about making the heavy feelings go away, and feeling happy, happy, happy all the time. It's more about really understanding the root of the emotion, being aware and present, choosing to view my circumstances with a level-headed perspective and responding in a healthy way.

These days, one of my favorite ways to practice mindfulness is to take notice of small details and how they contribute to a greater picture. I love to spend time in nature and find the most minor details and consider how they give to their surroundings. I enjoy having conversations with the kids in my class about their thoughts and ideas. I want them to know that they should feel confident and be heard- that even though they are small people, they have great value. I take in the moments when one of my little cats will sit on my lap and purr lots of love from his heart. I enjoy the entire experience of drinking hot coffee in the morning, especially when the weather felt too cold. I'm in love with the little things in life and I'm really taking them in right now because in a way it helps me to remember that I have purpose and power, even on days that I might feel small.

Thank you for such a detailed response! It sounds like mindfulness has changed your life in many ways. Identifying that you need to take responsibility for how you are feeling is a huge step for you and one that was no doubt very difficult to walk through and being processing. I am glad that you found the strength and courage within you to do this!

The explanation that you gave with regards to mindfulness is so comforting because often people go all in and wonder why they are not feeling extremely happy and serene 24/7. You have accepted the light and the dark. :) I hope there is more light though! I love how you have described what mndfulness means to you and finding gratitude in the little things and it is amazing that you have introduced it to the children around you. heart

Before even knowing what mindfulness is/was, I already made and took time for "myself" daily. After learning about it, I just incorporate the inward and outward "truth checks" into my "me time". And I also put it on my calendar a few times a week with links to check and it reminds me to be mindful. After doing this for more than a year now, it's automatic, but it's still on my calendar. whenever I lie down (not to sleep), I'm automatically doing body/thought/environment scans to see where and how I'm doing and feel, and whenever I talk to people I'm mindful of how I'm listening, paying attention, how they feel, how my responses are falling, etc.

It sounds like you have made a scheduled process more automatic for you and it's great how much consistency and effort you have put into this. :)
