Mindfulness Daily Check-in February 10, 2018

Most of us have a hectic professional life at workplace. Endless meetings, appointments, agendas, projects, presentations, deadlines! Ugh so many distractions and stressful it is. In such scenarios, sometimes,stress cna get out of control. And, you don't know if your employer even understand your stress and emotional needs. Because probably they, themselves have high level of stress. So, its all about yourself situation in workplace. Before we discuss what could we do to practice bit of self-care in workplace, let's recall what is self-care?
I think self care is identifying and recognising your needs in terms of physical, emotional and mental to ensure effective performance in the workplace. What's your viewpoint of self-care?
Couple of ways we can apply to care ourselves while being at workplace.
i) Sit quietly. How about taking 5 minutes and sitting quietly without computers, notepads, files and folders, phone calles? Just to have good breathe and relax. A simple way to self care and be mindful of our needs. Maybe you could do this way, before starting work, take 5 minutes, sit quietly and imagine about good things. Highly stressed in afternoon? Sit back and relax. Think about you're in Switzerland with your partner and playing in snow.
A simple step to take rest.
ii) Visualize. Most of us dream and hold visions about our future. So, while sitting for 5 minutes, visualize a fun filled life and how satisfying life it could be? Probably you can discuss with your friends, trusted ones. They will allow you to feel encouraged and better.
iii) Pay attention. Mindfulness is challenging. Ikr? And meditation, even more? But, either way they allow you to introspect yourself, your surroundings. Its all about being aware of what's going on. Its about think what are you thinking? So when life hit by stress, focus on present moment and pay attention to it. Probably, getting a cup of coffee and feeling how good it taste? how's it aroma or smell? Point is unless you are not aware about yourself, you can't move on and put efforts to do tasks effectively.
iv) Ground yourself. Feeling highly stressed? Angry? Frustrated? I know how it feels. So, probably you could try this. Ground yourself to feel yourself. Take off your shoes and put your feet down on the floor and feel the carpet or the bare floor? Or maybe move to office lawn and feel the grass beneath your feet. It gives strong feeling of yourself.
So, self care is easy and not need to be expensive one. It not need to be complexed one. It is just about taking some time for yourself and explore your emotions, feelings and yourself. Self care is simple, but not necessarily easier too. What's your idea of self care at workplace?

@Keion wow I did not know that about you. That is really a wonderful gift, visualization.
Thank you so much for this check-in. Self care is so important, especially when at your workplace. Often, workplaces are associated with stress, anxiety and negative feelings. That is why it is important to treat your workplace as a relaxing place, somewhere where you are capable of sitting peacefully and getting on with tasks at a comfortable pace. Mindfulness is excellent for helping reduce stress, and by practising self care we can bring these positive feelings to help you get through your work effectively!
The ways you have listed are very helpful, I will surely be trying these soon. Have a lovely weekend :)
@peppermintlove
Good to see you in today's checkin Pepper. Agree with you. Self care is important at workplace as most of the time of the day we spend there and get drained due to work load and pressure. So finding ways and relaxing at workplace is necessary for us to keep our emotions in check and perform well.
Thank you for sharing thoughts with us. Yay! Happy weekend to you..
For me, self-care at the worlplace is socializing with my co-workers. I have social anxiety and I tend to isolate myself in social situations, but I always feel better when I reach out to people. A simple way I can practice this self-care by greeting my co-workers by name and smiling at them and asking them how they're doing.
@ASilentObserver self care is doing what I need physically, emotionally and in other aspects of life to reduce stress and let myself be calm and aware.
@ASilentObserver

"I can't seem to do this today!"
haha Silent thank you so much for this wonderful check in. It kinda made me laugh but also frustrated. I already did so many things before noon outside its silly. But hopefully later today or tomorrow I can do some me time
@RumpleSteeleSkin Cool Rumple. Self care is part of being mindful and appreciate you do that now and then. <3 Thank you.
@ASilentObserver
Today looks better on the self care. I even slept in later-woohooo
Self Care Rocks

Took new camper in that we picked up last week and got them to fix what we found that wasn't working. 4 hours later. LOL for FREE!
@DanaMH wow that sounds very wonderful!
@ASilentObserver - my workplace is very frustrating and stressful. I take many breaks throughout the day to cope, sometime I go outside, or walk, or speak to coworkers about it, sometimes I sit quietly by myself, or look at the leaves on the tree on the property. I have a book about mindfulness on me, sometimes I open it to a random page and remind myself to be mindful that eay. I also spoke to my boss who is more understanding than the owners, he says I can take off Fridays once in a while if my stress is too high. I practice gratitude at work for these options, knowing it is not as simple please for many people.
@wontsleepwontwake yes work can be a stressful place. Good your boss is understanding.
I used to find that exercises before work gave me more energy. I would also go to rest room and exercise for 5 minutes if job stress got high.
For me a high protein low carb diet helped me avoid mood swings. Also have protein snacks helped me when energy crashed and I felt burned and it was 2 hours to go before leaving.

@DanaMH oh yes everything can be used for our awakening.
This is how I feel today and I have been doing mindfulness A LOT ALL WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
