Mindfulness Daily Checkins May 25, 2018
Forgiving Fridays: For me the place to start forgiving is with myself. So many times I find myself thinking of an incident from this past week or 30 years ago that I did not make the best choice. So I can either run through the whole incident again or I can "change the channel". For me mindfulness is often the way I can changing the channel.
I take a deep breath or focus on the room around me. Just to take a look and see that I am not in that old scenario helps me get by the temptation to run through the whole episode and guess what I might have done better. It just never works anyways. I can never go back and relive that. So the biggest part of forgiving for me is to stop focusing on the perceived mistakes and instead start focusing on what I did right.
I survived some tough times, I graduated from college, I have a relationship, I am part of this community. That is the things that come to mind looking back over life. If you care to share a little of your victories, feel free to respond to the following questions.

@soulsings
HI Souls thank you for this great check in
I sure can connect with you on what you shared. But I guess I don't get to caught up on forgivness no more. I used to. Now a days I try and take care off my "oops"
and if I can't for whatever reasons, I give myself time limits on this forgiving stuff. I find it helps me deal better and not let it linger/fester within me
What did you do right this week? Found a new PCP that I can start seeing in July when I get my new insurance.
What did you do right this month? Ate healthy
What ways have you found that help you "change the channel" when thoughts start obsessing about the past? Open up more to my therapist and send him emails in advance on some stuff.
What I did right this week was go to the gym and not care about people not inviting me to their group.
What I did right this month was attend a Taylor Swift concert, a ten year dream come true :)
@Chocolateandcakes
How was the concert?
@DanaMH
it was soo good, she really gives it a 100% and the media is not fair to her with all the negativity. Shes doing better than she ever was though, sold out stadium tour, winning all the awards, and real friends. Shes the best!
@Chocolateandcakes
I really like her music also.
@DanaMH
another swiftie?? Heyyy! Have you been to her concert? Whats your favorite song(s)?
@Chocolateandcakes
I don't have the cd's here at the coast. But they are in the car at home and I don't remember the cd titles. Currently on a long weekend due to Memorial Day weekend and son has no school.
@soulsings Hi Soul!
How are you? I hope you are having a wonderful day and week so far!
This is a really great and honest post, and I truly appreciate you for being straightforward about your struggles with forgiveness. I struggle with forgiving myself, especially with painful moments in the past. However, I try not to ruminate over them now and try to do what you do.
What did you do right this week?
I have been productive in every way that I can in regards to school, the business, work, internships, etc.
What did you do right this month?
I have been taking steps towards achieving my goals and achieving the successes I have always wanted.
What ways have you found that help you "change the channel" when thoughts start obsessing about the past?
I found that if I stay busy by doing what I love, then I can "change the channel" when thoughts start obsessing about the past as I do not have the time to ruminate over them and immediately go to thinking what I need to do, how, when, etc.
@SaimaK thank you for your kind words. I agree that doing things we love can help us change the channel.
@soulsings
Soul, thanks for sharing this post with us.
What did you do right this week? I took care of myself, asked for help when needed
What did you do right this month? Continued connecting with my surroundings
What ways have you found that help you "change the channel" when thoughts start obsessing about the past? Shifting my focus on music, doing something creative, trying to build something which involves a lot of planning (so that this will occupy my mind first), even brain training help me, and of course exercise.
@soulsings Hi there! I hope you are well. I was just wondering if you have a schedule of when you are doing mindfulness sessions? Because of my busy schedule, I keep missing them and I have found them to be very beneficial.
@essdee sure I would love to see you back in mindfulness. Here are teen and 18+ sessions. Thanks for reaching out.
If anyone is an adult teen listener you are welcome to attend the teen and or adult sessions. Please note I am tied up a lot in June and so discussions in June will not happen till end of June
@soulsings
Great topic!
What did you do right this week?
I was able to keep up with my self care and do things I wanted on my to do list. I also took walks daily. I did my mindfulness exercises daily. They make a difference.
What did you do right this month?
The above as well as coming here regularly to 7 cups. The mindfulness group discussion is exactly what I needed.
What ways have you found that help you "change the channel" when thoughts start obsessing about the past?
Letting myself know that these thoughts are not in alignment with what is currently and letting them go. It takes continuous practice.
