Mindfulness and Trigger point massage
Hello everyone, it's weekend!
I like doing self-care particularly in the weekend, this includes checking my body. So below I like to suggest a way you can find out where you have trigger points which might need care.
Trigger points are small patches of clenched muscle fibers that are sensitive and cause aching and stiffness.
Many times, the pain from a trigger point radiates out into other areas of the body. For example, when the muscle at the top of your shoulder has a trigger point it will refer pain up the side of your neck and head causing a headache.
First, determine where you might have a trigger point. If you are in active pain, it will be pretty easy to find. Use your hands and press along the tops of your shoulders, the sides of your neck, the sides of your legs, or the back of your calves. When you feel a sensitive spot, press more deeply into it (abt. 1 minute or less, listen to your body).
The pain you feel when pressing should be a good pain. It should feel sore but also give some sense of relief. If there is no sense of relief whatsoever or it doesnt feel like a good pain, stop. The key of self-massage is to listen to your body.
Second, once youve located a trigger point, sometimes just a bit of gentle rubbing (1-2 minutes) can be enough to allow the clenched muscles to relax.
You may need to repeat this over a few days or even longer and always be careful with the pressure you apply.
If you feel comfortable please share:
- How was it finding the spot to work on, can you describe your thoughts?
- How did you experience feeling your skin?
- What did you feel when treating the spot?
How did it feel after you finished?

Hiya, thank you for this super cool thread. I often massage my hands a lot after an exam or I've been writing lots and lots and it feels so much better!
I tried to find the pressure points on my shoulders and it worked, and it did feel like a good pain. When I let go it was a nice release. I will try this tomorrow as well with the same points and see how it goes again :)
@peppermintlove I agree massaging my hands really helps my energy levels. Good luck on the tests.
Good topic. I have low back pain that settles on either one of my "sit bones" ( the part of your pelvis that you sit on). I get relief by lying with a padded paint roller insert between the bone and the bed- and just press down until it "really hurts"- then release. It feels better after a few presses. The roller has a soft outside but very firm foundation and you can even "roll" on it to find the right spot.
If my fiance is there, he can press his thumb on the area and then rub around it to ease the intense pain that comes initially. The key is pressure until you can't stand it another second and then release. My daughter, a massage therapist taught me this trick.
@amiablePeace77 Hi Peace!
How are you? I hope you are having a lovely weekend so far!
- How was it finding the spot to work on, can you describe your thoughts?
It was not that difficult to find the "spot" to work on, because I have many sore trigger points all over sadly.
- How did you experience feeling your skin?
It feel sore and even swollen.
- What did you feel when treating the spot?
I felt great! There was some pain of course, but it was the good type of pain!
- How did it feel after you finished?
I felt pretty great afterwards. This was amazing. Thank you, Peace!

@SaimaK
Hey SaimaK, thanks, yes i am enjoying my weekend very much so far, hope you too
.
so many trigger points - sending you lots of healing vibes and hope that the massage will give you some relief over time. Glad to hear that it felt good after trying it.
@amiablePeace77 I'm so glad to hear that!
And thank you, I am!
Awww, thank you so much, Peace!!!

Hey, in my opinion, only Thai massage has a lot of prejudices. But it's not about seducing cute Thai-girls while they are rubbing your back like it is shown in many films for grown-ups. It's about improving your health firstly. Especially if it's a couple massage, then you might enjoy it with your beloved one and get a discount, at least I was offered it when I toured Thailand. So, I recommend to try it if you have such an opportunity.
